Metro: 2033, trailer

Will install this tonight, been too busy over the last day or two. Judging by other peoples' accounts I should be lucky to get a good, playable experience. Seems to be too easy for people also, might set it to a harder difficulty for a change, instead of 'normal'.

Does the included red faction also activate on steam?

Nope it doesn't.

As for the game I'm finding it pretty fun. 1920x1200 with DX10 and using specs in sig I find the performance just enough for me to enjoy it. There are slow downs but nothing that's caused me to feel the need to lower settings, just to upgrade ;).

How do we disable these as it seems to be the only chance of getting it running acceptably on my medium high rig.
****ing disgusting that a 4870X2 with a Q9550 CPU can't run this okay.

You can't do tessellation on a 4870x2 you need a dx11 card for that.

And it's not disgusting you don't have the hardware to run it at max so have to run it lower.

I can't even run it acceptably on DX9 on low with 1024 resolution.
Now THAT is ****ing disgusting.

It's like a Ray Harryhausen production. Stop motion photography when any action starts.

That sounds like a problem with your machine rather than the game.

Can't disable it!!?? lol When I want AA I can't always force it in game, now it looks like I don't want it but I have to keep it on, lol. :D

Just got it yesterday, been trying out the different settings (such as they are). Directx 9 - normal is the highest I'd consider playable though I'm very picky about smoothness and consistency regarding framerates, performance over pretty every time.

Q6600 @ 3.6ghz, 5870, 4gb ram, windows 7 x64

Might see if I can actually get round to playing the game at some point tomorrow :D It does look smashing with all the bells and whistles mind, but it runs like crap so it's utterly pointless.

Thats bad. I have the same system as you except an 8800GT. It plans fine in 1680 x 1024 in normal settings for me now. I ordered a 5770 so i could play in highest settings :(

edit - must be something wrong with my 196.21 drivers or something. Sometimes it will drop to 4fps when its usually 30+

Framerate is high

The odd thing is that my frame rate is really high. 100-150fps in DX9. But it gets multiple pauses when action starts that seems related to the audio. The framerate shown on Fraps then momentarily drops to about 70fps but there are noticeable pauses and stutters. If it ran at the framerate I get just walking around, it would be smooth as silk.

At least you're getting better fps now, perhaps with a patch it'll run that bit smoother. Very few people are reporting it to run that well so far.

No you don't understand. It's unplayable despite the framerate. The pauses are constant in any action and it becomes like a slideshow. Fraps reports a high framerate but the dips in framerate are so short that fraps does not get a chance to register them properly before the framerate shoots up again. And then it's rinse and repeat.

If I wasn't running fraps, I would say that the framerate appears to be in the teens and below.

Just tried it, [email protected] and 5850 overclocked running at 1920x1200 and its not too bad i have had to take the tesselation stuff off and its ok but not ideal by any stretch, might have to run in dx10 or something to make it better.

No idea why people are having all these problems running it.
It's smooth at 1080p on 'high' settings on my pc in sig & I only have a 5770.
Using non-whql 10.3 catalyst, running win7 64 home.
Running DX11, advanced dx11 options off, Antialising set to AAA.
I've enabled vsync in the config file.
The only real key was turning off the advanced DX11 options, they smash performance & make a very small difference to the look.

The graphics are really something & the world is interesting, only played the first couple of levels so can't judge beyond that.

Ironically, I'm usually the one reading all the problem posts and wondering why people are having all these problems.
First game in my 20 year gaming history I've been unable to play a game due to poor performance.
The fact that I've been trying for 2 days now is a testament to my patience.

Unfortunately, no matter what I try, it still stutters like a radio controlled airliner aimed at a skyscraper.

Likely because you are runing at a lower res and on high, most here are running at higher settings
