Hi,

Just wondering what is the best DX11 card to get for gaming at MAX res, on a 20" LCD (1600 x 900).

I am interested in a 5850 but have heard read in these forums that it can be overkill for gaming on a 20".

As I say I want to get MAX res in games, like - Crysis / Metro 2033 / BFBC 2 etc..

Would a 5770 or a 5830 be enough on my 20" for max DX11 effects ?

Yea, 5830 is poor value for money...unless you can find one at £150~£170.
5770 can max out general games easily at your res, but for those game you mentioned, 5770 'should' be fine but if you want to be sure, get a 5850.

lol cheers, but as you can see big dif in price between the 5770 and a 5850.

I suppose the 5850 will be more future proof, but I have no plan either to upgrade my 20" LCD as just got it and love it.

Sold! a 5850 it is. Cheers for the responce.

Just wait for the price to drop now, which i believe could be on Friday 26th with the new Nvid cards coming out.

I have an asus 5850 and its brilliant. I have anno running with 4aa and 4af and all bells and whistles and its a steady 40 fps in the busiest of cities. If you know the game then you'll realise how beautiful it looks and how 40fps is perfect. Also nappy tw is running like a dream

I would say go for the 5850 too, because going to DX11 is a fairly major performance hit compared to DX9/10 games, and the extra raw power of the 5850 should mean that you get considerably better performance in future games expecially at your relatively low resolution :)

5770 vapor x. Giving me great FPS in every game at 1980x1080. Good value. Low power consumption, low in size (can fit in every case)

At your resolution i think a 5770 will power any game.

I can run a max res of 1680*1050 on this monitor. I have a pretty solid build, i5-750, gskill raptors and a 5850 all at factory settings. And the system is overkill for the monitor. Running everything in max, even crysis at max settings and running smoothly with no trace of slow down. I bought the 5850 as soon as it came out and i built this system. I am very happy with the setup and doubt i will need to overclock anything anytime soon as i don't plan on upgrading the monitor.

So with your res a 5850 would be even more overkill it will provide tonnes of breathing room for any future games at that res. I even think you would be fine dropping to a cheaper card to save a few pennies.

I game at 1600/900 on a 20" monitor, the 5850 is great card for this res, and judging by fraps etc... i'm glad i got it and not 5770 :)
