Convince my dad not to get an iPhone... [UPDATED - SEE POST #48]

Well his contract is up next month and he's got his heart set on an iPhone, which is clearly a stupid idea so i showed him the HTC Desire. He then went on to say that he still wanted an iPhone because he knows that it works, 'unlike his old N95 8GB'

So yeah, if you wouldn't mind showing him the error of his ways? Thanks ;)

As long as he refers to it as a mobile, phone or cell like normal people and not iPhone at every opportunity, then it's fine by me. :p

Yup, he needs my permission.

Nothing annoys me like hearing "I'll ring him on my iPhone" or "I got it sent to my iPhone"

Bloody iPhags.

The iphone is now ~3 years old and despite a few changes its still essentially the same, would he really want to be stuck with such old tech for another 18 months!

The N900 is the way to go!

At least that's what I shall be getting soon enough.

Tried using an iPhone for a bit, but the battery life is absolutely abysmal, no multitasking is just downright stupid and no flash is absurd. It's my phone and I don't want to be told what I can do with it.

The app store is what has made the phone. It's good and very comprehensive, but I just don't think it's worth the hassle.

Well... My last 2 mobiles have been Windows based.

Samsung Omnia and HTC HD2.. Now that I've just bought a second hand iPhone I hate my HD2. Everything on the iPhones just....easy and works.

The Keypad is the best touch screen one that I've used.

I don't think you quite understood the thread criteria...

Well he's got a N95 at the moment so I don't think cutting edge is high on his agenda.

I say an iPhone is a good choice if he's wants a phone that just works. Android is still considered to a bit of a hobbyist phone (also can be quite buggy) and doesn't have the polish of the iPhone.

The problem is that it is essentially a 3 year old device which can be easily bettered by pretty much anything running Android and a few things running Winmo that are available for the same price or even less.

What does the iPhone offer over the Desire? More apps? Redundant, 98% of them have never been downloaded. Better interface? Please, have you seen Sense? Better design? Hell no, it's just a plain box. As i said, alright three years ago, inferior now.

@above, when have you ever known Android to be buggy? Sure, if the manufacturer is actually an idiot and doesn't issue bug fixes then there might be a few problems, but same could be said for the iPhone.

do you have problems with people calling a dyson a dyson rather than a vacuu
, or any non Hoover a Hoover??

.....the best touch screen one that I've used.

Why is that... after all this time the itouch/iphone touch screen is still way ahead of anything I have used.

I know there are two types of technology used for touch screens "capacitive and resistive" in modern touch screen phones the tech is capacitive, so if they all and use the same "capacitive" tech.... why are Iapples so superior to others on that front!.. does anyone know?.. Im thinking a combination of the operating system and the screen.

The HTC Desire looks like it will have a decent screen, as its 3 years newer Im hoping for something similar to the iphone in that respect!! In a couple of weeks i'll know :)

Did he ever update his N95 8gb firmware, early versions were dire but its still a pretty decent phone updated

tell him to get an iPod touch will run all the iPhone apps, and he can keep his N95 to use as a Phone and GPS. :) That said, he won't be able to browse the web in the iPod so there are reasons to pay the extra for the iphone...
