Anyone bored of the current gen?

I feel the 360 and Wii have pretty much peaked but I don't think the PS3 has peaked just yet, maybe once GT5 comes out it might.

The Wii peaked the day it came out.
The 360 peaked when Halo 3 came out.

Natal and Move do nothing for me. MS and Sony were forced into doing these because of of successful the Wi has been. I could care less for motion controlled games.

I am ready for the next microsoft console and nintendo console but still feel content with my PS3.

Graphically, they may have peaked (Wii and 360 moreso). But in terms of gameplay (or new stuff on consoles) I think there is more that can be done (without adding motion control stuff).

As yet none of the MMORPG games in development have come out yet, which will offer something different, on consoles.

Heavy Rain just came out which is a bit unique in terms of gameplay. The Last Guardian (if it is similar to Shadow of the Colossus) will be quite different as well.

Alan Wake is a traditional 3rd person explore/shooter with unique weapons but still a bit different from normal shooter games like that and that is due out soon too.

It depends what you define as "Peaked", if you mean graphically, then I would say probably, but in terms of the quality of games, well that is only limited by developer's imaginations.

I agree on the Natal and Move front, I'm not interested in either a great deal, but maybe some more interesting applications will be developed for either as they get closer to release. I think you could say natal is potentially more "innovative" in terms of it's feature set but I still can't see many mainstream games making use of it just yet.

I'm well up for the next gen, I'm not sure they've all peaked as such but I am bored of the current crop. I want some new toys to lust after! 360's been out for what 5 years now? Feels like forever ago I rushed to Game before college to grab my 360 on launch day, new console day is one of the best feelings :D.

I'm sure there is allot more to come, on all formats.

Things are different this gen...online is so much more important, hard drive use is more common resulting in bigger and better games.
They are more than games consoles now :) lots of life left yet.
Plus, don't forget about Sony's "Move" and Microsofts "Natal". We will see more of an evolution of gaming this gen as a result.

I would prefer it if the current gen continued for 2 or 3 years to give developers more time to produce games on their current game engines, rather than having to re-design them for the new hardware (depending on how big the changes are).

It would be nice though, in the next-gen, for all consoles to have a hard-drive as standard :)

Maybe a silly question but what are you expecting the next gen to bring that this gen cannot? Obviously there is the improvement in graphics but that is a given we can all agree. I don't think the current gen has peaked I just feel no one is really willing to put themselves on the line and try and do something different.

All my opinion of course :)

According to the general blurb out there this new game, Metro 2033, pushes the 360 further than anything before graphically (haven't seen it myself so don't know if that's true or not). 360 games are generally looking a bit tired - the Splinter Cell Conviction demo is only 576p or something and looks naff. Hopefully not a representation of the retail release.

There are still plenty of releases to come so I don't think we've peaked yet. CryEngine 3 is coming to the consoles, id Tech 5, etc. Both those are new engines so should enable even better looking games still.

Ho is it the 360 and wii "moreso" when talking of peak graphically? The 360 has a faster gpu and no matter how many cpus you throw at the ps3 itll never have the same graphical power... odd start to a thread that!

(and I have all three so no fan boy here)

I agree with you there but I cannot think of any console game that looks as great as Uncharted 2. Maybe Gears of War 2?

Graphically, hmmm maybe. Gameplay no. Im definitely excited about the next gen (even it if is like 3-5 years away).

PS3 has peaked more recently graphically with Uncharted 2 and GoW3. 360 i think did with Gears2 imo (haven't seen Metro2033 in the flesh so i can't say. Crysis 2 or whatever will be interesting). Again different games have different graphic stylings, so its hard to say with complete certainly.

I have been bored of current gen consoles since they were released. As usual all the hype and pre-release marketing was just a load of hogwash, and all we got was once again last gen games with slightly better graphics.

Nothing this gen has impressed me at all.

I'm not bored of them the games that are coming out are fantastic and it seems its a constant barrage of games at the minute.

One thing I am worried is that all future next gen consoles adapt these Wii style controls and if that happens I can see me, and a lot of other gamers who hate motion controls, going back to PC Gaming.

Natal does nothing for me at present and some of the Wii games are truely shocking.

I'm not tired of this gen - there are many great games on the horizon and I don't think hardware has progressed significantly yet to warrant a new generation of consoles. If you're such a graphics whore then just get a high-end pc.

The only thing a 'next generation' would bring right now, apart from higher specs and higher prices, would be higher game development times and costs. I don't see what a new machine could bring right now. That said, I also don't think a new generation is needed yet.

Some "last-gen" franchises haven't even made their appearances yet. No Jak & Daxter, Gran Turismo proper, Team Ico, Max Payne.

I think people are jumping the gun a bit saying the current gen has peaked, especially regarding graphics. Does no-one remember God of War 2 on the PS2? It came at the end of the consoles life-cycle and was an astonishing graphical feat.

I'm sure the xbox had similar impressive titles too, I just didn't own one.

I don't think the xbox360 or the ps3 have hit their peak yet. Alan Wake on the xbox and Trico on the PS3 already look more graphically impressive than earlier games. The only new console I'd expect in the next year or two would be from Nintendo, and I'd seriously doubt anyone would class it as next-gen.
