I'd like to shake that mans hand

Of course not, that's even less justified. Revenge is not substitute for justice.

That's what I said....eye for an eye and all that....
Then I was asked to put myself in the position of the fathers.......now I'm torn as if the same happened to my 2 kids then I would certainly want revenge,

I would want revenge as well, however deep down I would know it's not morally right and that should be the guiding factor. Passion rules reason for better or worse, and this is a case of worse.

Whenever a story of this nature makes its way into the headlines someone will always say "What if it was your kids? Would you still be so concerned with justice if this happened to someone you care about?". As soon as you put yourself into that hypothetical situation then all objectivity and reason goes out the window, unless you happen to be the world's most forgiving individual. It's natural to want revenge if someone you care about has been caused great suffering but society cannot function successfully that way. We'd all be part of one big, never ending blood feud.

These crimes horrify people more than a lot of other crimes so incite much more of a response than other, rationally no worse crimes.

Huntley should be left to rot in jail. The death penalty or suicide or a vigilante attack in prison is just an easy escape for him.

The reason why the crime is seen as so horrifying? Probably because, contrary to what the newpapers want us to think, it happens so rarely. People are murdered reasonably regularly, same with rape and drug dealing but child abuse/murder happens so infrequently we haven't become insensitised to it.

BTW, I know the answer - fear. Child abusers are an easy target but they are afraid to take on a group of drug dealers for fear of reprisals.... Cowardly if you ask me.

I don't think that is the answer. Not many people really care about drug dealers. They operate in their own little world generally. Obviously things can be different if you have had a personal experience involving drugs.

But the reaction against child abusers is simply because it is beyond any reason for most people and they cannot comprehend someone being so sick and twisted. It triggers an emotional reponse. People become emotionally angry when they hear about instances of child abuse. Drug dealing doesn't do the same thing. It is a massively lesser crime in most peoples eyes.

I disagree, and agree with Richie.

Drug dealers have this aura about being violent and nasty, so people don't like the idea of going near them. Child killers (as seen from this thread) are seen as cowards and "little" men that only pick on children because they can't pick on someone their own size, therefore fair game for the cowardly mob...

Having said that if drug dealers were ostracised in the media as much as child abusers/killers are then there might be the same sort of reaction...

What if Jessica and Hollys fathers were allowed in a room alone with this vile animal....would that be acceptable?......

Of course not.

That sums my feelings up pretty well. Revenge is pointless and self indulgent but understandable. That doesn't mean it should be tolerated though.

^this^.Which is what I was trying to do down the pub tonight....trouble is that they had been in there since 7 and were well steaming and I only nipped in for a couple of pints.......fighting a loosing battle when the only replies are slurred

Revenge is not substitute for justice.
Not saying I agree one way or another but what do you mean by justice? Revenge set by the state?

I really don't know what sort of replies you were expecting taking into account what you said in the original post.

The original post was to provoke a reaction......not my personal view but one of most of the people that I have spoken to with regards to the subject....I wanted to see if everybody on here felt the same.

I think it'd be pretty funny if your average white van driver wants to 'shake the hand of' was a complete nonce as well.

Genuinely trying to find out what people really thought....is that so wrong???

Of course not, this is what forums are for. However, you came in with a very silly Daily Fail type remark that read as if you were disappointed that he didn't die in the attack and you would've loved to shake the hand of a man who is also in prison for unknown crimes (and for all you know committed worse atrocities).

Then start agreeing with people who say he should rot in jail instead of dying saying that you were after discussion. If you want one of those then just start your thread with a better formulated argument.

These are exactly the sort of posts I was hoping for when I started the thread, not the cretinous 'You are a moron' posts.
Then you shouldn't have opened the thread with such a moronic statement. You sound like an idiot from the start of the thread, so don't sound so sanctimonious now!
You deserve the hits you are getting, stop squirming!

EDIT: I think you are lying, you were expecting people to join your lynch mob. That much is pretty obvious!

I'd like to shake the hand of the guy who got to Ian Huntley.......such a shame he didn't succeed in snuffing the sicko out:mad:

Does this sound like he is inviting discussion?
IDIOT!

Oh, and BTW I am a Daily Fail reader. Does this **** your preconceptions up?

I'm sorry but this child killer deserves everything that is coming to him.

People who post replies such as "two wrongs don't make a right" or "he got punished by are justice system" and other similar sounding comments should really think hard before typing.
