Hi,

I had a problem booting today when i switch my pc on it would go into a blue screen and it said it was the CMOS Smart Backup utility and I couldn't stop it booting into this until i unplug one of the sata drives from the motherboard connector and then plugged it back in. Now the pc will boot into windows but not before it goes to the windows boot manager??

I have the option of booting into Window 7 or doing a windows memory test, this screen appears everytime I restart. I have run the memory test and it passed. Now the problem I have in windows is if i click on a short cut or a folder in explorer it just instantly goes into wanting to rename the file/shortcut. Its as though its double clicking the folder/shortcut when I left click it, but i have checked the folder options and it is on double click.

Its really annoying as I can't select any files correctly.

At first glance I would say it was down to some corrupt system files. But I can't say for sure. Do you have any errors or warnings in your event viewer, especially from when your PC blue screened - you can access the event viewer by typing "event viewer" in the Start Menu search box.

I would agree with Sirius, Just do what I do take out the HDD attach it externally run chkdsk on it and that normally works... let us know if it does or doesnt

It sounds to me that somehow your F2 button on your keyboard is stuck - try unplugging the keyboard and selecting a file.

F2 could be bringing up the boot menu, and in windows F2 is the shortcut key to rename a file.

Ding Ding we have a winner lol. Was getting mighty worried that my motherboard had gone wrong but I went into the BIOS menus and I couldn't navigate at all using my keyboard. So unplugged it and then just plugged it in again and its all sorted. Glad it was a simple fix!!!

Thanks for the help guys.
