Road rage lunatic...

I was driving along queens drive in Liverpool this morning, just after the Allerton Road junction for anyone local.

The car in front of me was turning left and so slowed down to almost a standstill and turned off, there was an oncoming car waiting to turn right in to the same road, seeing as I was already stopped and there was no one behind me, I flashed him across and then continued on my way.

As I was accelerating back up to 40, a green Subaru Forester came shooting up behind me beeping his horn. He got right up behind my bumper and then pulled out to over take, space was tight, in fact there wasn't space to do it, I got right over to the left and lifted off to let him go by.

Then he cut straight in front of me despite there being no oncoming cars and we are talking centimeters here from my front bumper here! I braked quite hard and beeped my horn.

He didn't like this...he made eye contact with me in his rear view mirror and then did an emergency stop in front of me. I had already put a safe distance between us so I was able to pull up with about 2 car lengths between us. Then he turned around, looked through his back window and started reversing at me at full speed.

I slammed the car in to reverse, but by now another car was approaching me from behind, luckily he had seen what was happening and slammed on, giving me more space to move in to behind.

Then the forester stopped and took off on his way again. I acknowledged the guy behind and moved off again, at the next set of lights he jumped out to see that I was alright and if I had got the guys number plate but in all of the heat of the moment, I didn't.

My first thought was, it must be a stolen car, but I don't think it was, I think this guy was just a total lunatic!

Where on earth do these people come from?

I regret beeping my horn now because I guess he would have just been on his way, but even so, I didn't do anything aggressive or offensive to him, I even checked with the guy behind that I hadn't held him up or done something that I hadn't realised, but no, this guy was just a nutter!

Not an experience I want to have again! Anyone had similar?

Yes, got the proverbial kicked out of me in the same situation only there was 4 of them in a rusty modified 106 and me on my own age 18 in a shiney 306.

Found out who they were a year later, apparently thats just what they do.

Yes, I had a guy get out of his Jag X-Type and try to drag me out of my car, because I gave him a blast of the horn for cutting me up. This was near London Road in the City Centre. I try not to mess with the scousers any more :D

I thought Queens Drive was all 2/3 lanes in each direction, so I don't understand how he managed to overtake dangerously?

edit: ah ok, it was after you'd turned off :)

What did you beep your horn for? It's not (supposed) to be used for anything other than alerting other road users to your presence. It's often interpreted as being extremely aggressive and rude.

I'm not condoning what the other guy did, he sounds like a complete toolbox. But you have to just assume that EVERYONE on the road is a complete toolbox and will react badly to you parping them.

/me shrugs

Glad you're OK.

:)

Someone was close to hitting him, he used his horn to alert the other road user to his presence. Whats wrong with that?

Always a few nutters out there, at least your ok! Tbh I probably wouldn't have reversed myself but I understand why you did!

The scum society sadly. These people need exterminating, becoming tired at our lack of action in this country at this gutter dwelling low life

People that can't fight should just ignore the idiots & go about there business, People that can fight should remember Kenny Noye & ask themselves if the space in front of them is really worth the hassle.

Which is exactly what he used it for

No he didn't, if he didn't know he was there why did he pull out and overtake? Surely if he didn't see the other car he'd have just driven straight through him.

It helps if you read the narrative so you know what happened - *before* making any comments.

 indeed.

I had an even worse experience than that. I was coming home late one night and this van was getting right up behind me, i was doing just over the speed limit and this was a 3 lane road (Not a motorway). Anyway when people do that to me i start to slow down, in the end he overtook me beeping his horn at me. Anyway we both turned off about a minute later and he took another side road. Just as he was turning i decided to beep my horn at him for doing it to me earlier. He slammed his brakes on and turned back onto the road that i was on, and proceeded to chase me. After a few turns and straights i managed to shake him off. At the time my heart was beating so fast.

But yeah there are total maniacs out there. The way i look at it, if you do something wrong and someone beeps at you then take it on the chin. It's your fault but i guess not everyone see's it like that.

The guy overtaking might have misjudged the length of his vehicle, thinking he was clear of the OP. By beeping his horn he informed him that he was dangerously close.

Sounds like you held your cool better than most, I'd have almost certainly got out the moment he slammed his brakes on.

I had an incident a few years back, where some idiot was riding my bumper, so I slowed down and he just got closer - I'm talking about 3 inches from my bumper, literally, so from about 20MPH, I simply went slower yet (if it wasn't for having a toddler in the car, I'd have slammed them on full pelt), he must have been fuming by this point as he overtook, then proceeded to cut me up and slam his brakes on right in front of me, I saw him going to get out of the car, so I did the same - the last thing I want to do is give this idiot the impression he can bully me by remaining in the car. It was some middle aged, fat bald bloke who was clearly bullied at school and had some kind of hard man complex about him. I didn't even let him speak, and proceeded to shout to odds about the three year old in the back of my car - my reasons for slowing down, and proceeded to get my camera phone out and take a picture. He grunted, turned around and got back in his car.

Good work :)

Any more road rage stories people? I find them quite amusing to read.

My only one really was whilst driving to work one day. I was on the main road approaching a busy staggered junction (my right of way). I slowed down a bit as there was traffic ahead, and noticed some old woman trying to turn right out of the road on the left (always a nightmare).

I slowed down a little more and flashed her to let her go, as we were in very slow moving traffic by this point, about 15mph tops. She hesitated for about 5 seconds, so I flashed a few more times and carried on waiting. A few cars were behind me waiting. The car directly behind beeped me and starting mouthing off in my wing mirror, so I just stuck my finger up and carried on my way, making sure that I let every single other driver out of any other junctions I came to.

I later realised it was a girl I 'had a thing with' a year or so before. So I posted on her Facebook asking why she beeped me, and she said I was driving dangerously and could have hurt someone. Ridiculous! Slowing from 25mph to 15mph, without heavy braking, and being a courteous driver is NOT dangerous!

As much as I want to blast my horn at idiotic drivers it is simply not worth it, as it has been proved here.

I was driving to see my g/f a year or so ago and there where some temp. roadworks on my side controlled by lights, I had a white van tailgating me and the lights changed, I stopped, he wasn't paying attention and had to go onto the other side of the road to avoid hitting me!

Worst bit is he starting following me, even up my the drive of my g/f's house! I stopped at this point and got out, he asked me why I stopped at the lights! Lunatic, I told him to get off the private land and he drove away in a huff!

it does worry me out there sometimes. there are some braindead zombies out there pretending they can drive so im not suprised that things like this happen

how can you get that worked up about drving? if you were in that much of a rush, why would you mess about playing silly buggers?

that kenny noye thing is a fantastic cautionary tail

I have had a few incidents where people have done stupid things i normally forget to beep because im so ****ed off lol.

No one has ever got out there car at me, it would be a big mistake on there part if they did because they would get lamped before they open there mouth.
