Convince my dad not to get an iPhone...

I don't see the big problem with having an iphone.
But then he can't inherit his dad's phone on the cheap - it's not about what phone is best for his dad, it's what phone is best for him at the end of the contract!

Which is daft, let him get the iPhone.

iPhone - What is not to like?

By far the best OS, The best Apps, The best userbase, the Worst battery life, a wide range of aftermarket fun bits.

Get an Iphone and ignore the iPhag haters.

PS, the new one should be avail soon, 2 months.

LOL - I'm not sure there is one correct piece of information in that post.

What ground breaking new feature will it have after introducing us to copy and paste, multi tasking?

If he realy wants an iPhone then let him and buy your own damn phone :p

But make sure you let him know they will most probably announce the new iPhone in a couple of months, so if he can tell him to hold out else he might end up wishing he had held out ;)

Okay, i've pretty much given up on that endeavour since i momentarily forgot just how stubborn he is. How does this look (for me):

Since i doubt i'd use 100 minutes. Unlimited texts and internet for £10 a month seems like a steal, and a decent priced decent phone with it. But... the Desire on that plan is £100 more. Is it worth another £100? When this is running 2.1, i mean, as is it's a bit poor.

By far the best OS

A nice simple user interface, yes. The best OS? It cant do multi tasking, which no matter how you put it can be a huge irritation, even to the most die hard iphone fans. The best OS is prety much a personal thing, I like the freedom of Winmo but hate the fiddliness of it for example.

The best Apps

Again, it has the most apps, but this doesnt mean the best. Yes it has its fair share of brilliant apps but the majority are rubbish that you will download, try then remove. Its had a couple of years head start over the competition, so I suppose its gonna just be a case of wait and see what happens with Android and Winmo 7.

The best userbase

Definately one of the most defensive userbases, but all people that are cornered with a particular OS are pretty much all guilty of this.

the Worst battery life

To be fair, your hard pressed to find a smartphone that has good battery life. My Hero does 2 days with moderate use, and a day with heavy use.

a wide range of aftermarket fun bits

There are lots of odds and sods floating around for the iphone, I love some of the cases but on the most part its a lot of useless junk thats overly priced that you will never use.

The iPhone is what I recommended to my dad, even though I want an Android phone or n900 for myself.
I'm a geek concerned with tinkering and getting bang for buck, he isn't. Keeping things simple, intuitive and cohesive are all iphone fortés.

Why do people keep saying the iPhone cannot multi-task?

People tinker with the android phones (Altho im yet to change anything on my hero)

It takes less than 2 mins to get multi-tasking on the iPhone. Jailbreak > install backgrounder. It's probably just as fast as downloading an app from the app store =\

Because talk of such isn't allowed on here.

You really shouldn't have to invalidate your warranty to get a basic feature though eh?

the arguement here is battery degradation my GF's Iphone is a little over 6 months old and she says the battery no longer lasts over a day and a half

where as i know that when my android's battery starts to dwinlde i can hop onto ebay to get another
