No one can say yet as we have no actual confirmed/reliable benchmarks for Fermi.

i would have thought that 2x 5870 might be slightly better than a 5970 though.

Overclocking on a 5970 is very poor, by contrast the 5870 clocks for fun, if money is no object then 2x5870's is the path I would go down.

2 x 5850s is the sensible option. The 5870 is a waste of money in comparison to it.

2 5870s is better than a single 5970. The 5970 is essentially 2 5850s on a single card, not 2 5870s.

Actually the 5850 is far easier to slap a proper cooler on for 1ghz core clocking thanks to the stock vrm plate being re-usable.

2x HD 5850 + 2x Zalman VF-1000 = win.

Yeah loud stock cooling. If you say it's quiet I have run one at 1ghz and it was not quiet.

Also the VRMs are getting awefully toasty in games let alone furmark.

If money is really no issue you get two HD 5970s in crossfire, running 3 1920x1200 monitors with full cover water blocks.

The OP never stated that money is no object though. To most people throwing away £200 isn't very sensible.

If you can mate just buy 2 5970s if not 2 5870s and be done. TBH unless you running massive res just get 1 5870 it more than enough for 1920x1080
