You can buy a capacitive stylus.

A.K.A. a sausage :p

I'm going to get one, I don't want a netbook as I already have a perfectly good laptop that can do more miles more than a netbook. It will be great to have if its as much of a joy to use as my iPhone and the Apps are as good and easy to get hold of.

There has been a fair bit of discussion over the price of the iPad in the UK. Best estimate for the entry model was under £400 (£388). I don't think i will get the 3g version. I expect to use this mainly when I am near a wifi point (home and work). Will most likely go for the 32Gb version.

I am looking forward to seeing the reviews after April 3rd though. Will be nice to get an insight into what consumers think and what new apps are available on release.

I am also hoping for more news on the UK price and pre-order dates. Since the US got about 3 weeks to pre-order then perhaps the UK will experience the same.

Meat Stylus :)

Does anyone know if I pre order one through Apple when my card will get charged? I've never pre ordered anything with them before.

On topic.. I want one, but I'm going to hold off for the reviews.

I'm pretty much in the same situation, although it would take some hugely critical reviews to put me off. I think the first batch of US reviews should be coming out next week so we'll have to wait until then.

I think they'll be a 16gb WiFi model with my name on come late April. :p

I'd so like one, but I really can't justify it! Hopefully not long before something similar but with proper applications - a few years away?

Undoubtedly - Apple see all consumers as mugs - especially early adopters. They know there are enough people out there with more money than sense to get this sort of tripe to market.

I'm building my only tablet PC out of a laptop for the princely sum of £275 including the laptop (15.4"), touch screen overlay, replacement LCD screen (hence the cheap price for the lappy) and all tools and the OS (Windows 7 home Prem) to complete the job.

It will have a fully working OS with flash, HTML5 and whatever else I choose to throw at it, a DVD-RW drive, 4 USB ports, VGA out, Built in Webcam and Mic and if I decide to go completely overboard, an accelerometer. The only thing it will be lacking is multitouch assuming that Windows 7 will not respond with a resistive touch overlay.

That sounds crap to be honest, and then to top it off with no multitouch.

Its going to be a fat backward laptop with a poor touchscreen and poor battery life. I think you may of missed what the ipad is about.

I have no intention of buying an ipad, i dont even think it will do well after the initial sales.

In an analogous comparison I see the iPad as one of those phonebook/world clock calculator things that you could buy for sod all in the mid to late 90's when compared to a Psion. Except you're getting the capability of the personal organiser at the price of the Psion... you're a mug if you do.

LOL and it could well end up being crap - but for sofa surfing it will be pretty much on the money - assuming it works of course... I'm not sure you can call a laptop backward tho, it's like letterboxing the entire form factor - are you suggesting that all laptops are backward?

No matey i have a lappy myself as my only machine, i just think it will be too big and clunky, the ipad is sleek with a great touchscreen :)

PS On them pictures you quoted i thought the white boxes were slanted, bit of an optical illusion there!
