mahahaha, pre-orders up I've seen Gainward have by FAR the cheapest 470/480, at £330 and £430, all other brands at £350+ and £490-505.

Oh well, its a joke, the 470gtx, the cheapest one that I think won't ever see the light of day, is 50% more expensive, for around 10% more performance(though the 5850 can overclock likely to faster than the 480gtx). The rest that I think will reflect real prices are 75% more expensive, laughable. Same goes for the 480gtx, the 5870 was already not competitive on cost in any way to the 5850, the 480gtx is some 66% more expensive, for some, well, 10-15% more performance.

THey'll still be making a loss at those prices.

THeres something odd about Gainward being listed at such different pricing, personally think its going to be a BS type of pre-order, the ones that never come in so you end up waiting 4 weeks and switching to a more expensive alternative.

For me it would be in-between £320-335 and £440-460 respectively. This is imo the most realistic atm (unless some high "new technology bonus" will be put on top of these prices).

If the claimed performance increases are true, it won't make me happy at all. We are not to be expecting any price drops since... a year or so now? It really only messes up with our wallets and a new 5850 to my x-fire setup has to wait for better times yet.

GeForce 470/480s TDPs are already high. If so, we should not await any major overclocking capabilities too. This with currently designed new Radeon 5870s/5890s makes 480GTX even less of a deal. Real world performance difference of 5-10% does not make any difference to 5870. It can be oveclocked well beyond it.

What did I win? A Fermi perhaps?

So it's Asus 5870 vs Asus 470GTX. Tough choice...

5850 x2, costs marginally more but is still massively better value than both. Failing that, just get a single 5850 and get another in a few months.

I'm no where near mean enough to go through the threads and pick out those that thought the 470gtx would be between £200-250 and laugh at them, if someone else can be bothered though ;)

Seriously the 470gtx is 75% more in general, even the very worst idea of performance from the most biased source couldn't possibly pretend it was more than 40% faster in its very best cases(and those are BS anyway).

Way too expensive for my liking.

Thanks nvidia, you've made my mind up, going to get a 5850.
