Deceptive?

Without starting the usual flame war (and I'll set out my stall saying I have and still do own several cards from both parties...)

Do we think nVidia is being a little deceptive with the claim of:

Introducing the fastest gaming GPU on the planet

While this may technically be true, I'm sure many have spotted the obvious misdirection here. The claim makes it seem like the GTX400 series has the fastest card available (enter the 5970). While the individual core may well be the 'fastest' available, given the immanent arrival of the 5970 I think it's a little cheeky.

Or have I missed the point?

Its a grey area - the fastest gaming GPU has traditionally been the fastest single core solution. I think its a bit of and out-dated concept now but these things take time to change.

well they did manage to hold back a lot of people(including myself) from buying ATi by not releasing any performance info until the launch date.

This could be seen as 'deception' by some people.

it must be annoying to the people who waitied & waitied & find themselves in the strange position of having to pay more for a 58** series now than they could`ve 6 months ago...kind of bizarre really.

Nvidia have made no friends at all through this & have lost lots.....the warning signs were there when they offered no performance figures of any kind, using the "unknown" instead to try to get people waiting.

The 5970 was & is the fastest single card before & after Fermi.....simple as that.
