ITV axes The Bill

Maybe we'll get more police chase progs or more you've been framed now. Either that or more typical phone vote-in shows.

All bad things must come to an end.
The sooner they start importing decent american shows in wholesale and sticking them on prime time TV the better.

I used to love The Bill in the Burnside and Roach era but stopped watching it regularly when I joined the rozzers. I couldn't watch it without picking holes in it ... breach of PACE there .... can't do that. etc.

This is why my colleagues mostly can't watch CSI. And Waking the Dead makes them scream obscenities.

Good.

when we have stuff like the Wire, what is point of this kind of thing?

I watched it with my mum and grandma when I was about 8 or so.

But being ITV it is unlikely to be anything better.

I didn't mind it until they turned it into a soap. I enjoyed the old days, 8pm Tuesday/Thursday, 30min shorts so no faffing about worrying about who is shagging who, just cutting straight to the chase (quite literally in many cases!) and getting on with the standalone plot for that episode.

Still remember the episode when DC Martella got shot dead and there was a massive vendetta, police ramming the villains off the road etc. All a bit tame by todays standards I suspect but at the time it was very dramatic.

Where are all our jobbing actors going to get their first small TV parts now  I have 2 friends who both got their first break on the Bill and have gone on to much 'bigger' parts. A sad day for the acting industry.

On another note, thank god! what a steaming pile of transmitter fodder it has been since the late eighties.
