to be honest, even for a single showing in a single cinema to only get one person it must have had zero publicity. Which would suggest to me after the flop in america(which going by the scale could be the same idea as here), that they've actually aimed for it to make news by being a flop, thus gaining loads of free publicity.
Just seems hard to believe that a relatively big film could bomb quite so impressively. I'd never heard of it or seen the trailer until I heard this news story.
Motherhood managed to gross £9 from the lone viewer who turned up on the debut Sunday
She's a boring, plain-looking woman who's been lucky to do as well as she has so far. This recent attempt is just pure desperation.

She's not plain looking. She has gigantic hands and feet.
Commercial failure? I'd say that's yet to be judged in the UK, but I reckon the cost of putting on a weekend of showings at a single cinema will vanish into the profit from DVD sales as a result of this publicity. Not to say they'll make back the £3m/$5m it's said to have cost, but they obviously weren't even trying to make it a cinema success, otherwise they would have a) marketed it at all, b) put it on at more than one cinemaEven if true (and I don't believe it for a minute), that obviously didn't work, did it? Free publicity or no free publicity, it's a commercial failure in both countries.
Clearly the only thing you get from advertising a commercial failure is a lot of bad press and another commercial faiure.
