ATI 5870 2048 MB EYEFINITY 6 PRODUCT LAUNCH - IN STOCK NOW FROM £429.99 inc VAT

Can you xfire these for 12 displays?

I work for a company that provides photo systems in theme parks. If I could output too 12 displays from 1 PC, it would be very nice for support purposes and the costs would be quiet economical compared to how we do things right now.

Matt.

I'm pretty sure during the unveiling of the 5800 series, there was a video going around showing an eyefinity setup with 24 screens, though I'm not sure how they did it, but I assume they were using 4xhd5870s with 6 outputs each.

I believe it was actually running a flight sim on a linux install, rather than windows - so no crossfire as such, but some custom driver to prove it was possible.

Anyone seen reviews yet on the 2gb 5870 with resolutions of 5760*1080+ thats what i want to see after all thats what the 2gb cards are for, benching them on 1 display is kind of pointless.

no point in 6 screens (for gaming) if doing 2x3, you'll still hame the same fov except bezel in the way. I think [H]s demo of that is clear.

3x1 you have a great wide fov and nothing in the way of the crosshair. 5x1 in portrait would work too.

You know you can use these cards outside of gaming, where having vast amounts of screen real estate is useful?

You could also set it up in two groups. One group of 3 screens to game on, whilst at the same time having another group of 3 to run desktop apps on.

cant you just have two big screen to do that?

i have a 3 x 1920*1080 setup and want to know for sure the 2gb will make a difference here, im pretty sure the extra memory will help but want to see cold hard facts

check Anandtech review, only 6fps in one or two bnchmrks!

crysis and stalker i think! ;)

imo, 2GB worth <£400

I'm failing to see the point in this card, especially given its price, which is horrendous.

As has been said already, I'm pretty sure the AMD set RRP is only supposed to be $100 over the 5870 which is fair enough due to its specialist usage.

That'd put the card at an RRP of $450 I think?

They need to hurry up and release normal versions of 5850s and 5870s that have 2GBs of RAM and without such a hideous price.

Why are people missing the point here? The same people who harp on about CUDA being a great benefit of Nvidia yet it is only used in specialised enviroments, as is this card.

These are aimed at people who want 6 screens to output on. You don't come in here with your 2 screens or 1 asking what GPu to get and even think about this one.

Trading screens for one is a great way to make use of such a card, people who are FSX enthuiasts, etc etc. If you think this card is here to rival the 480, then you have missed the point completely.

You could say that, but if some one wants to run 6 monitors, they could simply get 2 low end 5 series cards for £30~ each.
