EVGA 480 Hydro Copper ***

Rubbish. You have no idea what a 480 can do underwater. If he wants a 480, whats the problem? Not everyone is soley obsessed with bang for buck. Maybe like me the op has had a very good experience with nvidia, and that counts for something. Heat is the only issue IMO and sticking it underwater will sort that.

Rubbish, or you don't agree?

Either way, my point is still this, for everything you do to squeeze extra performance out of a GTX480, you can do the same with a 5870 and end up with even more performance for a whole lot less money.

Having a good experience with nVidia is relevant, how? So because you've had a good experience with one brand, you should use/try another brand that is currently clearly the better choice?

It doesnt void your warranty with evga changing your cooler providing you put it back on for RMA, which you will be doing as these cards will be unsoldering themselves or frieing an egg :P.

What happened to the max overclock theroy ?

Also what source you running on stating the GTX480 can over clock well ?

Clearly it is relevant. Brand loyalty is a real thing. For example, I have used Sony Ericsson mobiles for god knows how long, I liked design, software etc. K850 was a stinker of a phone and I actually jumped ship and got something else. Looking at the Vivaz now with curiosity again though! :D

Nvidia cards I've just always gotten on with, never failed me and have always done what they've said on the tin. I have no reason to change unless the 480 just wasn't competitive with the 5870. If it was a 2900 for example, hot and woefully underpowered, then of course I would give the 5870 a try. I'm not anti-ATi at all though, for me the 480 with a waterblock would be plenty enough power-wise, that said I wouldn't bother with the stock air cooling, it is stupidly hot. Each to their own and that.

I do also love sony phones I love the ablity to multi task and they are dead easy to use but I won't apply it in the computer world and saying that when I smashed my K800 (threw the wrong thing) I was VERY close to getting a nokia but instead went with sony...it is there but I wouldn't defend sony to the death

in a nut shell brand loyalty is there in all off us I mean who only goes with one make of car? or one particular TV brand?

Don't get me wrong I'm not defending Nvidia here. The GTX480 was very close to becoming a complete and utter disaster, however on balance for me the power is there, if not quite what I wanted/expected, it's just one hot SOB. I really don't mind paying the extra, it's not for everyone but hey, it's my money eh? :)

The 470 is a complete waste of time though.

No wonder you don't care about the money, you probably robbed it from some one anyway! Bloody scousers!

I wouldn't mind paying an extra £50 but i want an extra 15% on top at stock, also i want the power usage to be lower to what I have now need alone the heat.

Also the fermi won't suit me as I will have to get two of the damm things for 3 monitors

Does a tree falling over make a noise if no one is around to hear it? Is a 480GTX really the fastest card around........ if no one can actually get their hands on one?

And will a GTX480 burn down the forest if it's left running Furmark un-attended? :O

Sorry, couldn't resist :D

I'm sure the 480 will be pretty awesome under a water block. Full of very cool water...

I remember having to sell my left kidney to get the 280 H2O, I don't expect the new card to be any different. I do have a little brand loyalty in my blood as I've only ever used NVIDIA cards. I'll never knock the ATI bunch as it's a personal choice. I have read what few reviews there are and I am content that the 480 is not king of the hill right now. You never know, they might just pull it out the bag, have not clue how they are going to do it but there is hope.

It's going to take few months to raise the cash for a new system, in a few months will be quite a few 480s knocking about and we will have a better idea on its performance and thermal output. I'm sure there is someone out there sitting on a stack of cash just waiting to get a 480/waterblock combo...

Can you get gfx card specific watercooling setups? ie, just for the gfx card, not for cpu/mch etc, since im getting a 480 it might be nice to get better cooling.

Well in theory you could easily run a GPU only loop. Would be utterly pointless not to cool the CPU as well though. In fact its heresy to even such a question over on xtremesystems forum.

If you mean a self-contained pre-built loop like the Corsair H50 then no, I haven't seen one for a couple years, although I do remember Leadtek made on for the 8800 Ultra when it was king of the hill. OCUK had one in stock iirc.

Why is it that when somebody starts a thread about getting a GTX 480 lots of people start posting about getting a 5870, a 5850 or even 2 5850s.

If he wants to get a GTX 480 then answer his question don't be telling him all the time to get an ATI instead.

It's not your money.Who cares if he wants to waste his money?
