Need some advice on Virgin

So, a colleague of mine asked me to help him out with his Virgin BB connection. The problem is he watches a lot of TV via streaming sites etc however since someone else has moved in the connection has been very slow.

For example, it is impossible to both be streaming a video/movie at the same time, which as you can understand is massively frustrating on a 6MB line. The router is a Netgear DG834G v5 which is on the latest firmware. I did a speed test whilst under no load and when streaming, this is what speedtest.net came back with:

Speed when under no load:
Down = 6.23mbps
Up = 0.19mbps

Speed when streaming:
Down = 4.42mbps
Up = 0.07mbps

One other bit of information I can provide is when streaming the chat client that they like using (QQ - Chinese version of MSN basically) always drops connection.

The only real thing I can think of at the moment might be some sort of conflict with the two laptops, what I don't know hence asking here :) Any advice/info would be excellent, as you can imagine that guy is getting close to tearing his own pubes out seeing as his connection seems pretty useless :p

What BB speed are they on; 10, 20 or 50mb?

I believe it's 10MB, I'm pretty sure that's what the router says it's connected at.

Also I did wonder why the upload is so low, any ideas on that one?

Ok so I'm off to get the stats in just a moment, so what afterwards? The upload speed comes back massively low, it's not how it's supposed to be but what next?

Post the stats here so people can take a look and see if they indicate a problem with the line. If they don't then it's probably safe to assume his poor speeds are because Virgin's ADSL service is trash, which in general it is.

Ok so this is what the router is showing connected as:

DownStream Connection Speed 8064 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

And showing in statistics:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8064 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 33.5 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 21 db

Can anyone see an obvious fault here?

So, just went onto Microsofts website to dowload something and see what kind of speed I can get, it's coming down at 60kbs! Christ I expect that at home on my 512kbps connection but from a 8mb line?! Yes it's Sunday and traffic will be heavy but come on! Weid thing is the speed is hardly fluctuating and pretty much staying at 59-60kbs which seems odd also?

It's near enough full rate but it looks like it's via BT Wholesale, so what does the BT Speedtester say (especially for the IP profile)?
