As some of you know I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in September 2008. I underwent an operation in April 2009 to remove the cancer using the Da Vinci robot and all went well.

Yesterday was the 1st anniversary of the operation, which effectively means I have been cancer free since then. I now have another 4 years to go before I am given the all clear.

So 1 year down, all good, and looking forward to the rest of my life :)

Also thought I was about time I reminded you all (men not women) to go get a PSA check done. You are not too young to have the test done, I was diagnosed when I was only 38!, so go and get one done at your GP's, it is your right to have a test :)

Oh and check out my blog....

That's fantastic news - Out of interest and without reading your blog, how did you discover that you had it in the first place?

My grandfathers on both sides died of Prostate Cancer, then my Father was diagnosed about 4 years ago. My Twin brother decided to have a test done just to be on the safe side and that came back clear. I took the test when he mentioned he'd had his and unfortunatly I was diagnosed.

The thing is, I didn't have any symptoms at all, and you don't tend to until it the cancer has got to a significant size within the Prostate. Problem then is that because Prostate cancer starts at the edge of the Prostate and then grows inwards there is a chance that it can also grow out of the Prostate and then start attacking the rest of your organs.

Excellent news. Makes me happy when people recover from cancer.

At 24 I really think I am a bit young to worry about it, gonna risk it for a few more years. :D

awesome news! though I've been cancer free for 24 years, though mine's a little less impressive :D

Though is it wierd that I'm expecting to get cancer at some point in my life? knowing that it's basically 1 in 3 people will get it, I would much rather I have it than a friend or loved one, I would just much rather it be me than watch someone else have to cope with it if that makes any sense whatsoever

Great news, these milestones are so important, keep ticking them off, I know it helped my sister as she counted the days, weeks and then years since getting the initial all clear.

Congratulations and long may it continue.

My Mum was cancer free for 20 years last year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 35 and because I am now approaching 30 I demanded to be checked out and was found to be normal but they will keep an eye on me due to my family history.

I would push anyone, male or female to get themselves checked if they are concerned, don't let someone put you of with "you're too young blah blah blah". It could be the best thing you ever did.
