OK I know some people will say why ? ATM i am running a gtx 275 which is showing slow down in battlefield BC2 .The card i had before that was a 4870 ,just to let you know i am not anti ati ,they make great cards too ,but i think Fermi is very new and that as time goes on the drivers will get better .I wanted to take the jump into dx11 and i have never bought a product that is so untested/new .The 480 looks very hot and the 470 seems to have more head room for overclocking .I am not to sure what to expect when it arrives on Wednesday but i am expecting better looking games and faster frame rates .I'll post back when i get it ...Robotgirl:D

Arrives on Wednesday? They're not released until the 12th.

In addition to that, you've just bought what is essentially a 5850 with an nVidia sticker on it.

You spent £100 or so more money for 0 more performance.

People think the 480 is a joke, the 470 is beyond a joke, it literally has absolutely no point other than to satisfy people who refuse to buy ATi cards despite them currently being the far better choice, same performance for 2/3 the cost.

Also, your sig is against the rules, 4 lines of text maximum.

Isn't it between the 5850 and 5870 in terms of performance?
Still, when a 5870 can be had for the same price I suppose the point is moot. Wait a bit I'd suggest m8, these are early adopter prices. In America the entry prices for the 470 is very similar to the 5850

Not really, the 5850 and 470 are neck and neck far more than the 470 is ahead.

In addition to that, everyone knows 5850s overclock extremely well, there's no chance a 470 is touching a 5850 overclocked (even an overclocked 470).

There's enough posts on trashing Fermi...there's no need for another one. It's peoples' choice to buy them, and you have no right to bully people that buy/bought them and make them feel bad about it.

Sure if purely comparing gaming performance, I agree 5850/5870 would be faster, but only by small amount, not miles ahead like 8800 vs HD2900 for dx 10 back then.
At the cost of a bit more money, hotter running, and slightly slower than the 5850/5870, Fermi give the additional features like 3D, Cuda, Physix, folding@home and better compatability with linux (?) etc.
For people that actually uses those features instead of just gaming, it's quite reasonable to get Nvidia instead of ATI card.

But I totally agree...the GTX470/480's heat problem is a huge issue...however if there's a way (such as watercooling) in dealing with it, they are not really much worse than the 5850/5870.

Do you SERIOUSLY think that's bullying? What the hell?

Do you not get the forum thing or something? Am I not allowed my say because you don't like it?

Looks like you're not cur out for forum usage if you think so...

tbh, kylew might have came across as abit forward - but what he has said is true and will help robotgirl out a lot more.

Its a well known fact atm that 470/480 are not very good value for money atall, let alone performance / price.

My opinion would be to get a 5850 and overclock it to 5870+ and save yourself a few quid as at max with both of them overclocked there will only be a 5% diff in performance ish.

But you cant go wrong with the 5870 for the extra money. either way you will have bought a good card that will last a while, its not like Nvidia are going to release anything anytime soon.

Have you seen how much 3D vision cuts your FPS down? I'd go as far as to say that I don't think a 470 will be adequate for modern games with 3D vision on.

I think you're just too fixed on how much you hate everything Nvidia.
I use 3D Vision now with my 275 & it works very nicely. It is only just starting to struggle, the 470 will eliminate this struggle. To be honest most modern games aren't that demanding as they are all console ports anyway (with metro being an exception).
Looking back at your posts it looks as though you are in bed with ATI. Why carry on posting 1 sided views over & over again? Both ATI & Nvidia offer unique features. ATI's being good price/performance, Nvidia's being good 3D Vision & debatable GPU physics support. Neither company is better then the other.

I think you've spelt your name wrong, got l mixed up with p, understandable since they're so close.

You just got laughed out of your thread, don't make the same thing happen twice in the same day.

I never got laughed out, I'm still waiting for someone to show me where I used the term 'recent'

I seem to remember Rroff and I ripping you apart when you used the quote "Cuda for 3D?", in a fermi pre-speculation thread, then I dismissed your claim of working at an architect, due to your age of leaving school and education.

but now I do believe you work at an architects, as a cleaner!

I never claimed to be an Arcitect, I'm a CAD/Architectural Technician. There's a huge difference there, but that's got nothing to do with anything in this thread.

Personally i don't see the problem with the 470 sure it's more money for less preformance but least you get good drivers and physx which some people may want that more.

I'm not a fanboi of either of the 2 companys and i must admit i've had both companys cards since they started they both have Pro's and cons but ATI are top this time altho i wanted to change to nvidia for abit but ow well roll on 5890.

And lets face it 3DFX were Win.

You didn't use that term, i did.
I asked you a question, show me something else that ATI had been cheating at recently & you simply failed.
