Went to the tip today to 'recycle' a 17" CRT and an old steel ATX case with PSU.
I went into the container for such parts and there was an aluminimum PC case there. A pretty decent if scratched case.
Being nosy and also the fact it had thumbscrews rather than crosspoints, I took of the side cover.
I found 1Gb of GEIL dual PC3200 DDR, a Gainward GF6600GT 128Mb, an Arctic 64 heatsink a NIC and half a dozen thumbscrews for my Lian Li case.
All would have been crushed no doubt, I have probably more than covered my fuel costs and am recycling them myself.
I can't help think that this stuff whilst not cutting edge is plenty good enough for upgrades to older kit and is too good to chuck. The Geil is running as I type this.
Would you chuck this stuff? or pass it on? The previous owner had removed the processor and left the rest.

I tend to hoard, got loads of ancient gfx cards lying about and 3 hdds just sitting, most of which are bricked, but I don't want to just chuck them out

I checked a BNIB car sub away at the skip the other day worth about £100 brand new. Tried various forums, ebay and the like and just could not shift it, not even just postage costs.
thrown quite a few things out. If It doesn't sell with in 2 or 3 attempts it usually goes down tip.
Although i have just signed upto freecycle so will be trying that in the future.

Same here :D I still got S3 Verge graphics cards, Voodoo 1 2 and 3, god knows how many ATI cards and assortment of motherboards.

I rarely get rid of components. When I do, it's always passed on to someone or, if we have a use for it at work, added to our store cupboard. I've seen people throwing out dual-core computers with good DDR2 RAM and decent graphics cards before now. :|

I chuck stuff out. I don't have the room to keep old things.

If someone I know needed something at the same time, I'd obvo pass it on. But that's never happened.

It depends what it is, if I've got time and the ability to do so then I'll usually offer up old PC parts here as I'd prefer that someone gets some use out of them than them being wasted. However if there are no takers I'll end up dumping them, I'm not going to spend a significant portion of my time trying to find new owners for my old stuff.

Iv picked up a case for my server from the tip, its surprising what normy's throw away sometimes. There is plenty more components but its best to go in summer time if you fancy your chances

My dad literally today threw away an old server I had laying around

(A real server, quad redundant power supplies, 12 10K RPM SCSI Drives, Quad CPU, EEC RAM)

Gutted :(

wait until a skip is placed within a few streets of me , get my 16year old step son to dump whatever i dont want in it :D

im not going to a tip its to far , if the binmen wont take it and my only other option is to pay for it to be removed because "bulky rubbish" dont do everything for free anymore white goods etc cost money, then ill dump it :D

i have 2x crt monitors in the garage in working order waiting to go , about 5 broken crt tvs

if i wanted them gone via bulky rubbish it would be something stupid like £10-20 per item lol, i could probably get a courier to send them to somewhere for cheaper!

This latest trip to the tip will see me leaving.

A Computer desk, PSX original Grey one(Chipped) An N64 console missing the cover for the expansion slot. A freeview box missing the remote.

I feel bad taking the stuff, But its taking up room
