Hi

I have tried to OC my i7 920 to 4ghz (HT on) and whilst it is stable the temperatures are a bit high. They idle at around 45 and on load get as high as 78 in LinX or 76 in prime95.

The cooler is a Venomous X with 2 akasa apaches, and the case is a coolermaster ATCS 840.

Do you think the cooler needs reseating and the compound reapplying (quite a fiddly job) or do I need to improve the airflow in the case? When the case was open the temps were a whole lot better, so this is leading me to think I need to add some more intake fans.

What exactly is the problem here mate?

Those temps are perfectly normal, they're actually quite good as far as air cooling goes.

hehe those temps are pretty much the same as mine and thats not bad at all :)

ecept i have 930 which runs a few degreese hotter :>

They seem okay, i'm getting roughly the same as you -

pretty good temps, if you're worried though, or would feel more comfortable with cooler temps, just up your cpu fan speed. my temps currently idling at 39c after an 8 thread ibt test i only got 74c, and after playing just cause 2 for awhile the most i had was 53c from that. this is using a tuniq tower 120 extreme in an antec 1200. got cpu fan full speed though, but for me its worth it
oh, my system is a i7 920 oc'd to 4.2 (turbo and HT on)

Mine has ultimate cooling then. After running prime95 for about 10 mins with my fans running on lowest settings the temps max at about 65C. With the Fans on max settings the temperature maxes at about 55C.
