Edit: woops it's MyWay not Nav N Go!

Wanted to share my thoughts on this as many are using nav apps on their phones, much more convenient than carrying an extra TomTom around etc.

Been using Mobile Maps 9 for a while now and have had 99% success rate with it, there was only one local road it got confused with but I think that was a one off thing. I've used it to get to interviews in perfect timing since then and it's been just great with precise and clear voice notes and junction/A/B road name speaking.- I rarely look at the map any more.

I wanted to compare it to iGo's Nav N Go for Android which I've been using for about a day now and I have to say both are much nicer to use than standalone satnavs I have used before (Navigon, TomTom OneXL, Garmin 255WT/200W).

The iGo has some sweet transition effects and I really like the way you can drill down to finest detail on planning a route, like when you start by entering the town it begins searching as you type and continues right through to the door number/post code and intersection entries. It also greys out numbers/letters in the entry screens that are not valid for the current entry (see screens below).

I'll be navigating my way home today at 4pm using iGo to see how it compares to Sygic Mobile maps 9 but I have to say it is impressive so far :)

Another awesome feature I found that I really like on the iGo is that when you've entered your route and it's calculated it all and showing you the screen with route information/distance etc you can choose to be shown the distance + ETA for the other navigation modes as well (FASTEST/SHORTEST/ECONOMICAL etc - I find this feature extremely helpful in deciding whether it will be worth taking the back roads or the motorway based on the ETA and mileage.

My only issue with it is because of the funky transition effects the UI is a bit slower to navigate than Sygic/Google Navigation (via modified Google Maps) and there doesn't appear to be any option to turn off transition effects. The keyboard also seems to be slightly slower too but not by much, key entries still register but on screen key presses don't show up for a few ms - I guess this is due to the software doing the in-line searches as you type in a destination.

Sygic is still my main navigator but 'll be sure to use this more as well.

Will update later this evening, unless I get lost going home and end up in Staines or something ¬_¬

Looks like an interesting app that Id like to try out. Just searched for it on the Marketplace and couldn't find anything - no download info on the site either. Am I mising something??

The official site says it's available but doesn't say where but I actually got it through a gsm-forum - I'm only testing it out as Sygic is my main nav app :)

Its not avaliable on the market, iGo for whatever reason are not selling it, we can't talk about how to get it, hopefully we can talk about the software itself though?

I have been using iGo for a while but have not tried Sygic yet. I really like iGo, has got me everywhere I need to go and seems to have a good POI database.

The main criticisms I have though are that there is no roadblock function, and no traffic. If these where added, and google local search added it would be perfect. Could do with being a little quicker though I agree.

What POI atabase do you use for igo? I seem to have lost mine!

I find Sygic more feature packed (there are a limited number of options in iGo for example) but I do like the iGo interface and contacts integration as can find a contact on my phone and navigate to them via iGo so no need to have my contacts added to iGo's favourites list like you do in say Navigon or Sygic although this is not a big issue but it does save some time.

If I could get the POI database I could test out how good it is at finding and listing POIs compared to Sygic.

For live traffic I just glance at Google Maps :)

Edit*

Oh never realised! need to try out 10 :)

Where can I buy the iGO My way phone running on Android operating system version?

The iGO My way phones running on Android operating system version can not be purchased separately for the time being, at the moment only the Pannon network, Samsung Spica Galaxy is available with your phone.

Rough translation from hungarian... does that mean they're only shipping it with phones? I do have the Spica however, but could you give us the XDA link please?

Well this thread is a bit of a tease tbh, some nice info - but strictly speaking it's illegal to have this software on an Android phone unless your've bought a Samsung Galaxy on a certain Hungarian network.

But yea... any one with 5 minutes spare can figure out how to get it.

Just noticed that Navigon have finally released their Android app, free 30 trial in the Market, just checking it out now. Used to love the winmo version

I wasn't fond of the Navigon app, way too basic in features.

Having routed home using iGo this afternoon I really do like it, it's very easy on the eyes and the 3D+ view is pretty sweet too. I really like the voice directions on this, it's a female voice but the guidance is more precise than the Sygic maps around town, it says "take the 2nd left in 300feet" stuff like that.

Tried Sygic Mobile maps 10 too, it's prettier but it's so slow (button responses on touch) that it's pretty unusable. Reverted back to Mobile Maps 9 which is instant-snappy.

I think I'll use iGo as my primary nav app now :)

Interesting, I've been playing with mm10 this afternoon (not been out on a drive with it yet) and I've been finding it lightning quick! Maybe something wrong with your install? Perhaps some leftovers from mm9?

Weird I completely wiped away the MM9 folders, are you on a HTC Magic (UK) ?

iGO 8 doesn't display the screen correctly on the Desire so you have to use MOTONAV instead

Motonav eh, I'm interested in trying anything NAV at the moment just to gain user experience in them all so I can recommend stuff to people and decide on which to settle on for myself :P

The only thing I've noticed that would put me off using iGo as a long term thing is on the motorway it doesn't speak out the exit number or A/B road names or for junctions like Sygic does, this makes it a little confusing at busy junctions because it will just say "in x yards/feet exit left" or whatever. It does display the exit numbr on the top of the map as you approach but to be able to see it at a glance clearly enough you need a bigger screen really. I imagine this will be less of an issue on a phone like the Droid/Nexus One with their huge screens and high resolutions.

I think it's just an older version of iGO Amigo
