Yeah,.. the time has come my fellow geeks - the time has come for me to start building my 5850, 12Gb, 920 beast. Just unpacked it all, now doing a systems check to see if it's all present and correct. If all is where it should be, (in my front room), then I shall begin my epic quest to build this BEAST of a machine! :D :D :D

OH YEAHHHH!!

*Take a deep breath,.. take a FEW deep breaths,.. calm down man,. relax,. compose yourself!* :)

Catch ya later alligators! :) Will be back if anything untoward happens or if I manage to get it online in one sweet move. ;)

Bummer, my blue UV SATA II cables never arrived! :-/ Everything else seems in order though, but I refuse to use the 'default' supplied cables; I bought the ones I did because they have a right-angled head on one end, which is important for my particular build, (case door won't shut with standard SATA cables). Damnit. I guess they were out of stock at the moment they packed it all up. Damn! Immediate hopes of starting the build dashed so quickly. Hope they arrive v.soon! What an anti-climax!!

Don't let that stop you! Just swap them back out when the new cables arrive?

Not impossible, but for 2 little niggling annoyances,.. 1 - the case door won't shut,.. and 2 - they may be awkward to replace when the right ones turn up. Ok so it's not the end of the world, lol, but it's messing with my mojo man,. lol. I'll start with the motherboard anyway and the case. :D

*Gets thinking cap on and gets head to the grindstone*

Back later. :)

I hope someone in-the-know is awake,.. I have a problem,... Corsair H50 says attach fan connector to the CPU-fan pins on the motherboard. I'm reading the motherboard manual fully aware that in a video showing how to install the H50, it says install to CPU-Fan connection - one slight snag though; the connector on the H50 is 3-pin female,.. and the CPU-Fan connection on the motherboard is 4-pin male. There ARE however 3 other connections for 3-pin fans, BUT,.. Asus don't say in the manual exactly what voltages each of those connections IS, so I don't know whether to connect the H50 3-pin'er to the 4-pin connection on the motherboard,.... OR whether to connect the H50 to one of the other 3-pin connections on the motherboard not ever sure if the pump in the H50 will be running at 12v which is what the pump requires..... If I knew which connection was DEFINATELY the 12v, I'd be ok I think; the 4-pin CPu connection seems to allow a 3-pin device to be connected to it,......

1million points if you know what the hell I'm talking about,. and 10pts if you can solve my dilemma! :D

Thank you!
While I wait, I'll go and check out some videos on youtube to literally spot what others have done,.. best look for identical rigs in operation rather than not-switched-on etc.

I'll be back shortly!

By the way,.. so far I have no pics taken of the build-in-progress, but I'll do my best to get a handful of pics of the completed rig with a decent camera. :) I MIGHT even attempt to make a vid for y'all. ;)

TTFN! :)

I ran with the side off my case and the CD-rom out of it for about 2 weeks because I was missing an extension cable. It was much less wack than not having a PC... So what I had to lift up the CD-Rom to put anything in it...

I have installed the H50 on a similar motherboard. The fan just connects to the 4 pin CPU fan header. This header is specifically designed so it will accomodate 3 pin fan connectors, it will only fit one way.

However, there is a second 3 pin connector on the H50 that comes from the pump. This needs to receive a constant 12V supply and should be hooked up to an unthrottled motherboard fan header or the PSU directly (via a Molex to 3 pin adapter). If you connect this to the motherboard - ensure that you check the BIOS quick to make sure that the mobo fan headers are receiving full 12V.

I salute you who're about to die,.. my rig,.. is ALIVE!!! :D Am sat here typing from her now,.. and is she a BEAUTY!! ;) Gonna run her in for a few days, take it light, go easy on her,. then when I'm happy that everything has settled in nicely, I'll ramp her up to as close to 4GHz as I can. So far temps at 100% stock are hovering around the 27-30 degrees C mark, so I'm sure I can push her a bit when she's settled in.
Will post pictures later, but for now, I'm gonna get some food, some WELL deserved rest, (had NO sleep yet since yesterday morning), and will start to reinstall all my games and proggys. :D
Hang tight guys, got a few juicy pics for you coming later when I've rested etc, come back tonight if you want to see them, not many of them granted, but hey, I was too busy building. :D
Thanks to all who offered advice etc, but a big fat wet trout-slap to the tart who indirectly called me an ubergeek,.. :D I AM one, I just don't need reminding. :D :p

Spart'.
