The Masters 2010

Can you imagine how hard it must be to tee off in front of that many people with an enormous TV audience etc.? Wouldn't you just be ecstatic to even hit the ball? Balls of steel, TBH.

Can you watch anything else other than amen corner? never watched the golf on bbc before (well, unless you go back a time to when they would at least put it on bbc2 live!) and got to say it's pretty shabby so far!

Limitation by the masters committee for the first two days. We'll get live coverage after 9pm and only get full coverage on Saturday/Sunday. Same every year.

Bugger i missed Tiger teeing off. Hopefully catch it on something like youtube later :)

I haven't put a bet on anything but i'm quite confident Tiger will make the cut.

Lol.. undercover security in golf clothes. :D

Though there's a big plane flying a banner around with "Tiger: Did you mean Bootyism?". lol

Cabrera -2 after 3! Get on him I tells ya!

He won't win it. I thought Y-E Yang was a huge price at 175/1, won a major last year! He's -5, now 20/1.

Delicious tee shot from Woods at 12.

What odds on him scoring a 69? ;)

Am I right in thinking there's about 80 players, and 'making the cut' is being in the best scoring 44 players?

"The cut" is anyone more than 10 shots behind the lead score after the end of the second round. E.g leader is on -8, anyone up to +2 gets in. +3 or worse and you're out.

Ah right thanks, that explains it better. I saw on wiki that it says "To "make the cut", players must be either within 44 places of the lead (ties counting) or within 10 strokes of the leader's score."

With Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Sandy Lyle right up there here is the leaderboard after round one.

All you doubters in Woods - how many people do you know that can come through the media storm that he has, after a break from the game and card a round like he did yesterday?

For all his misdemeanours outside of the game, there is still nobody to touch him on a golf course - won't be surprised if he wins this weekend.

Sorry el_dazzer, you're wrong (kind of) and yes, Merlin5, you are right. Imagine the uproar if the leader was at -10 after day 2 and the nearest competitors were at +1, would that mean we just give him the trophy and not play sat/sun as only he would make the cut? :D

From the masters website:

In 1957, the 36-hole cut was instituted. The low 40 and ties and those within 10 strokes of the leader would qualify for the final 36 holes. In 1961, it was changed to the low 44 and ties (and those within 10 strokes of the leader).

This ensures that 'at least' 44 players will make the cut who will then make the minimum 22 pairings required. The 10 shot rule then allows more players to make the cut if they are within 10 shots of the leader.

/edit: This is also true i believe for other US based majors due to the smaller number of entries compared to a normal event. For The Open the 10 shot rule is not used and it is low 44 and ties.

The cut for most PGA TOUR events remains at low 70 professionals and ties. If that cut results in a field larger than 78 professionals, the cut will generally be at the next lower score, meaning the weekend field will be smaller than 70. In a very few cases, the "number nearest 70" may still be over 78 (i.e. 80 players Vs 59), in which case the larger number of professionals would play the weekend.

Any comments doubting Woods were made before he teed off. Along you come when he's 7th and four under...it's not difficult to guess when you already know the answer. It was a reasonable assumption that he wouldn't be all there mentally, however he does indeed seem to be proving people wrong in that regard. Good on him.

I don't quite think saying nobody can touch him on a golf course is accurate, he hasnt won the masters for 3 years, (and he was in them all) and 6 people are doing better than him at the moment.
I don't think he will win this.
