ps3 other os - refundings

I think it would be funnier if update 3.22 reinstated the greatly used (must be millions of PS3 users) other OS, would this mean you would have to give them the money back? :D

You say it would be funnier, but that's all I want. :)

Without Other OS my launch PS3 can no longer be considered a true KuturagiStation. :D

Some people need to get off the horse tbh, so much internet drama over something that barely anyone used.

Complaining because a feature which you will probably never use has been removed therefore requesting a refund is honestly ridiculous.

Is the update not optional? If you use your PS3 primarily for Linux either don't update or buy a Desktop?

Seems like not everyone that is trying to get money back even used the Other OS Feature!

As we can take up the SoGA with the retailer, I suppose the retailer can do the same with the manufacturer?

I just don't see retailers giving out £80 to every customer who complains without it being covered by Sony or the wholesaler - otherwise they are making a loss.

I just have issue with the people that never used the feature trying to get money out of businesses, because surely if you bought it primarily for Linux then what's the issue? You can still use it.

But your quite happy for the same business to take away features whenever they please?

The update is not optional if you bought the machine to use it for everything it was capable of.

The way i see it is the PS3, financially, is still a big failure for Sony, they've lost millions overall. I'm sure the execs are watching the product very carefully at the moment, trying to decide whether it's worth letting the playstation brand continue into the PS5 (PS4 was under development before the PS3 even launched).

If people catch onto this and millions of PS3 owners flock to their respective retailers, demanding their £80 and then the retailers pass this cost onto Sony it's going to be a huge blow for them. They're either going to need to recoup the costs elsewhere by charging for more features which are currently free, or just give up the ghost and let Microsoft take over the 'non casual' gaming market.

If someone legitimately made use of the OtherOS feature then demanding compensation is more reasonable however.

Surely there are primary purposes and secondary purposes. And all the primary ones are still entact. removing the function has done nothing detrimental to the console and has only stopped a few people from using linux. And if those people need linux entact theres a way to do that, they just need to weigh up whether the console was bought for its primary purpose or its secondary one.

Like I said I have no issue with people that feel aggrieved, if, since they owned the PS3 system they constantly used the Other OS Feature.

It's people that have never to this day, or even planned to ever use this feature, that are trying to squeeze money from businesses.

Plus as far as I am aware the performance of Linux on the PS3 was awful with a lot of the hardware access locked out, such as the nVidia RSX chip.

Sure there wasnt this much fuss when MS removed the ability to use all but MS memory cards a while back, so something you had paid money for no longer would work? Seems far worse than not being able to use something most user never used and that actually cost you nothing, just seems a bit strange that this has caused so much fuss TBH.

Being a games designer, its sort of relevant to me. Yes I hadn't used it yet, but it was there for if I needed to render with maya, or do some dev work.

Tootling an email off now

lol

Be honest, you would never have used it. If you want to use linux do it on a PC.

This.

Amazon may well issue a refund, but they'll go back to Sony to recoup it and Sony will hide behind the EULA and Amazon will have to take them to court over it.

If you used OtherOS a lot then I could understand, I use to use YDL before I got a Slim and it would have bothered me if I still had a fat. But if somone hasn't even touched the thing and have no reason to then it just comes across as anal to think a company owes them big time. Like someone else stated, they need to get off thier high horse.

This.

I have used it, not on my ps3, but i have used the functionality before. Only due to me not using maya this year at uni has that altered anything.

Secondly, you have NO idea what I do or don't do. So don't act like you know.
