best camping matress??

i have a foam-camping-mat which has a metalized plastic layer on the bottom to insulate the matt from the cold ground. it works a treat.

Sleeping on the ground is horrible and the last time I did it, I couldn't move my left arm for a good few mins as I more or less cut off the blood circulation to it. If you want to be a man, awesome for you, i'd rather not wake up feeling like I've slept in next doors garden.

Don't pitch your tent on a load of twigs, roots etc then?

Used one of these to my recent jaunt to Kielder.
Vango Deluxe Double Airbed.340/3082
Best airbed I have ever used. Of course, thats if you are driving. I did want one of the more expensive ones as I have always had bad experiences with AirBeds going down, leaks etc. But this one was solid!

I normally do camping trips where I don't have to carry my stuff with me so I tend to take an inflatable air bed. I prefer the ones that are textile on the outside rather than the cheap plastic ones. I've got a big up-down cylinder pump to inflate it, saves messing around with battery pumps and it's more reliable.

If you dont have to carry your own stuff i would take a full size double mattress. "Here you go Mr Sherpa"

Thermarests are really expensive and as mentioned above, more about warmth than being comfortable. Even if you just sleep on one extra layer of sponge, you'll be warmer than sleeping on the ground.

Get a new sleeping bag tbh! I hate the cold and so hit Download festival in this Vango Nitestar sleeping bag - didn't need any kind of mat cos it was so nice and padded :)

I find the foam roll and the sleeping bag perfect.

I've also done sleeping bag in water-proof bag thing with a hood, and no tent.

I could sleep on a bed of nails.

No they're not. :p

I can't stand those oll matt things, maybe a bit of warmth but absolutely no extra comfort. The thermarests however are totally comfortable, they may be thin but they work. I find them just as comfy as the more traditional 4" thick airbeds.

having said that I don't have much fat on me and so that may be why I find sleeping on the floor so uncomfy?

Thanks for everyones input on this really is much appreciated ;)

Well I have gone and placed an order for a Thermarest prolite regular:)I really hopw this is what I have been looking for and will help me get off to sleep instead of sitting up every five minutes mubbling to myself...who's bloody Idea was this anyway :D

Now I really should get myself a sleeping bag but I dont like single ones as I feel trapped :mad:so it will have to be a double what do you recomend ??
