Stolen mtb agian...ways to stop it

In the house. Screw the inconvenience, it's the only way it's not gonna get nicked.

My brother has to fight his way through my bike in our hallway every day, he's stopped complaining about it now. :p

If you can cut whatever you secure it with with hand tools then its not enough. Make it hard enough so they'd need an angle grinder and you'll stop it being nicked.

Cover the handlebars/saddle with a strong glue then look for the guy with no skin on his hands and a saddle still attatched to his backside :p

maybe get one of those mini sheds to keep your bike in?

keep it inside, and then when its outside fit it with at least 2 good quality locks/chains and then smaller ones for saddle etc - always try and chain it to two fixing points aswell.
you should be looking at spending at least £100 on locks, i think i spent about £200 on mine but my bikes worth £1700 so kinda worth it....oh and always get insurance!

I've never kept my bikes outside.
Whilst they do get in the way being in my (small) flat, at least I know they wont be easily stolen.

It depends on how much you value them I suppose.
Mines aren't expensive but if they were to be stolen, it would be a large problem for me.

Always undo your front wheel quick release when you leave the bike, and re-do it up when you start cycling.

It won't help stop your bike being nicked, but at least when it is nicked next you can wander down to A&E for a chortle.... :D

you can get those motion detection cables (tamper proof)

also, use some big motorbike chain, or a bike chain that covers you up to £1500 or so if it gets broken.

BUt, as I do after having out bikes stolen/attempted 3 times now, it lives in the living room (quite a big living room)

You can always take the front wheel off if you're keeping it in a hallway; that'll allow you to keep it fairly flat against the wall, and it shouldn't be too much hassle to put it back on (though I suppose this is only true if you have disc brakes).

You can get through them no bother with the right equipment.

But you are right, you'd need to be very determined.

Yes, with an oxy-acet torch or angle grinder. Typically not the type of kit that bike thieves use. Bolt croppers are the standard tool of choice and none of the Almax chains are croppable unlike the ones from Oxford, Abus, English Chain etc.

It won't really matter how good your chains are. If a good thief has all night to get your bike you can be sure he will get it. Keep it inside. If you don't have room on the floor you could always suspend it near the ceiling with pullys.

I would do this, as I am a nutter, and like making stuff.

Mount it outside your bedroom window on hooks with a small wire pulley system with a lock.
In the morning, open the window, and lower away.
Walk downstairs, unlock. lock wire onto eyelet, get on bike, and ride away.

Then on your return, lock it to the wire go inside, winch it up and away onto the hooks, and wind the pulley cable around an eyelet

haha!
