Macbook Pro - buy now, or wait?

Finally

Well i've had the money set aside since November and finally got my order in, 15" with i5 2.4ghz with the updated hi-res anti-glare screen and larger faster hard drive. With HE discount and extended warranty, just touched the scales at over £1500:eek:. It is a lot of money compared to other laptops there's no denying it, but I personally hope that it will be better overall than other laptops.

Now that i've purchased my first mac I wonder how long it will take for me to become an apple fanboy douche, probably about 2 weeks..:)

You will definitely enjoy it, they're superb machines.

Apple do make some quality hardware and I can't wait to jump into OSX and I am really looking forward to the extended battery life, simple/quick execution of mundane tasks and XCode development! Plus I get to prat around with GarageBand, my current PC/X-Fi solution for playing doesn't really work that well (Sidenote: Creative sucks!)

However having said that Apple's recent appauling decision to put the boot in on Adobe/CS5 has annoyed me quite a lot:mad: So I not sure about becoming a total Apple convert.

April 2010, the MBP15 finally gets a screen resolution in line with billing itself a Pro/Premium system. Shame it's yet more money!

OK - what one?

looks like it's ~ £ 2000 for what ever one

The RAM 4-> 8 looks actually OK value ? It would only be 'cheaper' to by 3rd party ram due to being able to flog the old chips off?

What are physical dimensions of the 17"?
Where can I get an express slot card reader? Why does the 17 not have a sd card slot?

All these machines have web cam in the screen?

With the prices of these, if mobility wasn't a factor, a specced iMaci7 27" would be very attractive...

Is it worth the jump to 7200 from 5400?

Is it Apple ?

When would an Apple retail Store have these in stock?

I want to have a look at the screens.

Problem is my 15" Santa Rosa 2.4GHz C2D is three years old this summer and therefore will be out of Apple Care.... and a top spec 15" would be nice for uni, and going out and buying one would be a really sensible way of saving money for uni... right? ;)

Spec isn't everything and it won't run OS X. No thanks.

I bet it also weighs a ton, has crap battery life and isn't made of aluminium.

deaglecat, PC laptops have always been considerably cheaper than Mac ones of similar or even inferior specifications. What you're posting is nothing really new. And just to clarify, I'm not having a go at you.

It's just that there's value beyond technical specifications. To what cost that value is? That lies entirely with the person ready to spank their wallet into eternity. :p

Slogan - thanks understood. No offence taken. :D

I too like apple products... but I am making the point that the cost delta to go the Apple way is still widening. There was a time when they were much more price competitive.

Usually Apple kit is expensive ...but acceptable (to me at least) at launch and then the value for money drops over time cos' they don't do the speed and spec bumps as quickly as others.

This new batch seems expensive already... I am really not sure that they will be able to sustain this differential credibly in (say) 6-9 months time...

Oh.. and USB 3.0 would have been nice / groundbreaking.

Finally!

Spec'd a 15" MBP:

2.53GHz i5
4GB
500GB 7200rpm
Hi Res / Anti Glare display
iWork
AppleCare Protection Plan

£2143 inc VAT.

Do I pull the trigger? :p
