HD5970 4GB!

Couldn't understand why the memory was making such a diff at soem of those games/resolutions - until I looked on the article to see it is clocked at 900MHz, which is quite a bit higher than the 725 of the 2GB version.

Just noticed that myself. A big LOL at those benches above in that case. The gain is entirely from the overclock - the extra ram is doing, as has been pointed out, naff all. You'd have to have significantly more money than sense to buy one of those. Makes 480 buyers seem positively frugal :)

I reckon I should be able to run 2 of these on my Classified and there should be plenty of ventillation. I'm using the top pci-e 1x slot for sound, and run my 5870 PCS+ cards in the 1st and 3rd red pci-e 16x slot. Between both gpu's is a pci-e and pci slot (which I don't use). So definitely plenty of room for the 1st 5970, and the 2nd one would take advantage of the 800D's bottom 8th pci slot. When I think about it the Classified probably has a better layout for 2 of these 4gig 5970's then the Rampage III as the soundcard for the rampage III would have to go between both cards, where as on the Classified it's in a dedicated top pci-e slot. If I can sell both my 5870's and a few other bits, I will defintiely consider these 5970's unless ATI bring out a refresh soon.

Does anyone have any idea when the ares or saphire are going to be available to order ?

i just want a bod standerd speed 4GB version :( My normal 2GB one is slow in eyefinity... the GPU's go to 80% each cus the Vram is all gone

wtf really ?

2gb not enough for eyefinity.. i read a test where there was no difference in eyefinity between 1gb and 2gb..

then this test comes along and there is a big difference between 2 and 4gb ? even though its still 2gb mirrored

which results are correct

That thing you read is incorrect then.

A resolution of 6060x1200 with MAX textures on Metro 2033 and Just cause 2 cause the Card to run out of Vram and you would see the GPU's not get above 80% in JC2... was around 60% in metro... there simply was not enough Vram

I spy an Arctic Cooling custom heatsink. The very similar looking one I fitted to my trusty 4870x2 was superb. It turned a hot noisy card into a cool silent one (even when overclocked).

theres a £130 difference between the asus 5870 1gb and the 5870 2gb, so if there charging £130 per GB ram the 4gb asus 5970 would be £800, and add a bit if they overclock it above stock 5970, my guess is closer to £900 than £800 :(

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but hey :p

Even though I personally thought a HD5770 is good enough for gaming, and that a 5970 is over priced
and not really needed, they release a 4Gb version. Heres is some of the article from Tweaktown as they test
one of the four models made, and here are a few of their results.

This card doe's look quite a beast, and wouldn't mind seeing what it doe's on Crysis, but I would still expect atleast
an £800 price tag.
The the full article if you want to see more :)

Seriously? *despairs*

:confused: so what you saying.....double:eek::(

can't say really as i don't know but i can't imagine it being 50-100 quid more expensive then the 5970 2gb version. i'd possibly say around £800-900. Who ever buy's these 4gb version they probably have 3-4+ screen's otherwise not worth it.

Do OcUK usually sell these limited edition cards ?

On an unrelated notes, do you guys use D3DOverrider (part of rivatuner) to force tripple buffering on your 5 series card ?

When you enable vsync to get rid of tearing it can kill your framerate when things get busy. Tripple buffering counter acts this to some degree. Just wondering if 5 series users were using D3DOverrider to enable TB or if there was now a better way to do it.
