Heroes of Newerth

I'm not actually sure what this game is, but I just got a mail saying that the open beta has started, so I'll give it a blast later.

Heads up for anyone else out there wanting to give it a go. ;)

Play the tutorial and read the basics guide on the forum!

And if you manage to get a flavour for it, add me g0rd.

i got the open Beta Email, and D/L'd but everytime i do it says there is an error with the file when i try and run it, any ideas?

True, and they're so serious all the time, I spend half the game telling these people to calm down lest they burst a vessel!

A good way to get them to shut up is to say, "Be polite, stop raging, or I'll feed the enemy team on every respawn asap". They usually calm down.

To be fair though, if one person is being a spacker and feeding the enemy team kills needlessly it is pretty annoying. But still, no need to go "OMG, WTF GTFO NOOB", why cant they just be polite about it and make suggestions.

Anyway, I'm only playing noob only games atm, so I just ignore them, Im' a noob, I'm going to make mistakes, thats why I joined a noob only game. Apparently theres a way of playing "nostats" games so it doesnt mess up your score thing, but people were too busy raging to actually tell me how to join a nostats game.

All the same, I find it a great laugh to play even if I'm loosing all the time :D Played Demigod to death when it came out and this is so so much better, so I guess I'll be playing it a good bit.

Shame is isn't so much a learning curve, rather a learning cliff face. :p

Most often these people can't do the basic of things themselves though such as last hitting, denying or glyphing!

It is a very steep curve and can't imagine what it's like with all those people on your back, when I learnt dota I was learning with friends so it was pretty good.

Cba playing pub games much, just got flamed for killing creeps :s

If you are playing a support type hero and your laning partner is playing a carry, they will try and tell you not to take and last hits.

In pro competitive games, this is how they work. The babysitter (support hero like demented shaman, plague rider) lets the carry get all the creep kills while concentrating on denying and harassing the enemy to keep them off the creeps. Then then support spends all their gp on wards/astrolabe healing etc because they can still be relatively effective in team fights with JUST their abilities with no autoattack. Doing this lets the carry get uber items, kills the other team in 3 hits with their scaling abilities (%damage increase etc).

In pubs, as a newbie, do not do this. Get as many last hits as you can. Everyone plays selfishly in pubs and you must learn to do the same. It's no good you letting a carry player take all the last hits because it makes you weaker, die faster, get no kills, not let you learn last hitting or anything.

Played this last year, got a bit bored with the flaming and elitist bs that went down.

Now I'm playing League of Legends, which is very similar, but in my opinion is much better.

The forums are bloody useless, as all the guides are written so that they use miniscule little icons for items and heros and as a newbie you have sod all clue what the hell that tiny little 20x20px image is supposed to be. Cant they just write the item name or have it as a popup when you hover over it? Would make far more sense.

It makes it damn hard to decide what items are a good buy for your character, therefore making you stay a noob longer, therefore irritating the whiny little "pros" for longer.

Oh yes, how do you "deny"? I've seen it pop up a few times now, but havent a clue how to do it myself.

When your own creeps are below 50% you can press the attack hot key and select your own creeps. Deny them by last hitting. Auto attacking them at 50% is a valid method for stopping your creep line advancing too far away from your towers.

They may have been raging at Thorpy if he was just auto attacking enemy creeps due to it pushing the creeps waves closer to the enemy tower.

i can explain this, its probably because you were just killing them willy nilly auto-attacking.

what you need to be doing is last hitting for the gold or denies. also early on its better to sit on your tower. limits what the other team can do in terms of attacking you and last hitting the creeps for gold themselves.

obviously this is situational, if you clearly have an advantage in the lane, then push through.

Oh, so you dont want to push the enemy back to their tower? I figured it was a good idea so the creeps could start beating on it. Whoops.

Can wards be killed? Like the Ward of Sight things (200g I think?), not the ability wards.

It depends on the situation but generally being that far away from your own tower leaves you open to ganks etc. Unless you have a heavy pusher on your lane then its best to sit back as far as you can early game.
