The new 3D stuff is quite impressive, much better than anything which has gone before. The main reason it's making a comeback though is it's impossible to pirate (currently) and so unique to the cinema for the time being meaning the film companies can screw the cinema going public for more money.
 
I enjoy going to the cinema :)

Being a student, it costs me £2.25 or £3 (orange wednesdays + depends what cinema). Parking is free everywhere I've been to didnt realise they charge! I usually can resist buying food or drinks might buy the odd sweeties but thats only ever a couple of quid if I do buy (Pick n mix). so say £5 max for a about 3hours with mates isn't too bad ! You also sooo definitely need to find a better cinema! I thought £6/ticket for students was high enough!
 
You have to sneak your own food and drinks in, prices are quite outrageous. Though when you are taking a girl on a date you kinda have to buy from the cinema, think i spent like a tenner buying us stuff the other week, cost more than the tickets. I guess they have to make money though because apparently they make no money off the tickets.

Ive done it loads of times. You get the second ticket for free, but you get charged the £2 3D surcharge for both tickets.

I never sneak stuff in, Ill walk in with my stuff in my hand, buy my tickets and hand my ticket over to the guy at the entrance and not once in all the time ive been going have I been stopped. They have no signs up at all saying "Only food purchased in the cinema can be consumed on the premises" so whether you walk in with your stuff in plain view or not they cant do stuff all about it :p

Might come across harsh, but stop moaning, half of your expenses are down to you being silly.

As others have said, don't buy the food & drink there. If your kids want some just shove some cans of coke in your pockets and some snacks from home.

Secondly, I pay £5.50 as a student. You're not only paying for the experience but the exclusivity of watching a film before it's released on to DVD. If the film is good it's well worth my money.

I can understand your frustration about the chavs, it rarely happens but when it does it's a pain in the arse, how old were they 14/15? Just tell them to STFU or you'll complain. I paid £15 a ticket (IMAX) for my family of 5 to go watch Avatar on christmas eve and had pakistani chavs talking non stop and shaking their legs, to which i turned around and told them to STFU. They obliged...

I think you should tell us all where your cinema is.

You're able to use Orange Wednesday tickets for films you aren't allowed to.
You easily take food in - the only cinema I know of that doesn't have a sign about taking in your own food.

Maybe you should share the knowledge so other locals can do all that too?

Are you crazy? That's one of the only few benefits of the cinema; she can't distract you and cuddle up. "I've paid see a film women, I don't want to cuddle!"

Stop moaning says the student who isn't paying full price or has kids to pay for.


We went to the cinema a few weeks back to see Alice in Wonderland. The tickets are expensive already, then they slap on more for it being in 3D (3D is **** imo) then more for the glasses. Pre booked tickets because it was opening night and payed a booking few, fair enough if it means we dont have a queue for tickets. Oh wait, they still made us queue and outside in the bloody cold. Also, didn't the film used to start at the time stated on the ticket? We turned up 15mins early and were made to wait until the exact time on the ticket. The new cinema in Witney is run by idiots.

Admittedly it costs £20 for an Adult to see a film at the cinema i go to (Odeon - Leicester Square), but I've never had problems with chavs kicking my seat or being noisy during the film, then again not many people pay that much to see a film.
 
The Odeon in Guildford is horrendous for food and drinks (more than thrice as much sometimes for what you can get in a supermarket), though the prices of their tickets aren't too bad (£10.20 for an adult).

This was the Empire Leicester Square and all the staff were saying the same thing.
Having said that, I got a couple of VUE vouchers for xmas off of someone and when I went to use them for Avatar 3D, I got the same brush off, "They are not valid for 3D films".

This 3D business annoys me, why should I pay extra for the film companies/Cinema Chains to upgrade their hardware.

Like any industry, the costs of modernising to the latest tools of the trade are not cheap and eventually these costs must be passed along the chain but not many industries have the cheek to openly stick their hands out and demand it immediately.

I don't expect Tesco to slap a sticker on Frozen Pea's telling me that they are now £2 more expensive because they have just bought a new freezer.

Yet I probably spend more money on the cinema in a month than most people do in a year...
