Prescription drugs for the win. Srsly go to your GP and get something on prescription, if nothing is working so far then over the counter probably won't help

I went to see an allergy specialist about 6 years ago. He suggested a change of diet. I changed diet, and I haven't "had" hayfever since. I can tell when the pollen count is high, and have a runny nose maybe twice a year, but that's it.

Go see an allergy specialist, your GP will just give you drugs to deal with the symptoms - without sorting out the cause, you'll always have to take drugs.

Which is why I'm a lill against seeing my gp who is your run of the mill "I-don't-care-what-you-have" doctor.

I'll have a look around see the prices

As a pharmacist, I say don't bother your GP with this, and go to your local pharmacy - we get these questions day in day out and are trained to safely recommend you something tailored to your needs.

I would avoid piriton as a first choice, as others have said, it can cause drowsiness and interacts badly with alcohol. Plus you need to take it four times a day to be effective, which is a bit of a bind. I would suggest one of the newer antihistamines such as Loratadine or Cetirizine, which are both non-sedating and only need to be taken once a day. Both can be bought over the counter and the generic brands will be less than £2 a box.

If that doesn't help, you can get a nasal spray over the counter too. Only after you have tried both would I recommend bothering your GP.

Buy an air purifier for your bedroom - About £60 from Argos iirc.

It really does help you sleep. Obviously the blocked nose will return when you leave the room or open the window, but it gives me a noticeable amount of relief whilst in my bedroom.

I used to take Piriton. It was the dogs danglies. Not allowed it now because of work, so now use Loratadine. It seems to do the trick.

Go to a local farm, buy some locally produced honey, take 1 spoonfull 3 times a day. After 1 week no hayfever.

I can confirm this one - but only if you don't plan to travel! It only works on the pollens that are in the local honey - usually I take Zirtek or the supermarket equivalent.

Medinose from Amazon works wonders for me when I get hayfever.

Drastically reduces my symptoms anyway, used to be sneezing all day and generally feeling like rubbish, using this I barely notice it anymore.

p.s sorry Dons, I don't think Amazon count as a competitor but feel free to remove the links if it does!
