GTA 4 Gay Tony Stutter

5870 here and with the past two updates for GTA4 I have had stutter, so I went back to the patch where I get no stutter, case solved, seeing as you're playing the DL content, this won't be an option for you.

I just started playing GTA IV again and my game stutters all the time when moving the camera around. Tried playing with the graphics settings to see if that makes any difference?

i also get it, but what i found out is if you enable vsync its not so bad, but still makes it unplayable. with vsync it seems to happen only when you get in a vehicle, otherwise its smooth as silk walking around. i was hoping it would be fixed in a new patch, but so far it seems they're not making anymore

i also seem to get it with very high FPS on my 5850s =( ( crossfire or single mode makes no difference )

Lowering the settings down to minimum doesn't help either..

I thought stutter in GTAIV was normal, it's always done it for me on all my rigs. C2D, C2Q, 8800GTS, GTX280 etc. No amount of patches or drivers has changed it. I think it's just that no machine really can run it smoothly, so a change in FPS produces some stutter, though there are probably other factors relating to the game design that cause it too.

Ive played a lot of GTA IV PC over the past couple of years, and ive always had stuttering with ATI cards, whereas Nvidia cards, from the 8800 GTS 512 up to the GTX 280, never had a problem. Make what you will of that :/

GTAIV was always fine on my 4870x2. Yesterday I got two addons and the performance was terrible. Sub 20fps with the same settings as IV. My new GTX480 doubled my framerate.

I've found quite an easy fix for this. Disable Catalyst A.I.

You might get the occasional stutter but its only a small fraction of what it was like before, for me anyway. Hope this helps.

Catalyst A.I needs to be enabled for crossfire to work.

also got this problem with the biker DLC.

had to play with medium for all settings. high for texture and 100 for all sliders.

100 view distance? There's no point, after 35 or so its near impossible to tell the difference. The higher the view distance the more the game stutters as most HDDs can't keep up with loading geometry and textures you can't even see. View distance and shadows are your real system intensive settings.
