Just been on the C4 news.

Donations to Conservative party last month: ~£1.5m
Donations to Labour party last month: ~£750k
Donations to Lib Dems last month: ~£20k

We can start to see how much of the establishment is against us now.

Hmm... I've seen those same figures given as donations during the first week of the election campaign.

Latest poll from YouGov: Lib Dems 34%, Tories 31%, Labour 26%

Usual provisos about margins of error apply, but there's no doubt now that the Libs have galloped past Labour, and are about equal with the Tories maybe even ahead. Question is: can it last? And what will it mean on polling day?

What's interesting is a lot of the 'swing predictions' where you plug-in the current opinion polls are based on the idea that 'traditional' voters don't change, so they apply the percentages to the swing voters to determine what the likely outcome is. The obvious flaw is that if 'traditional' voters are truly fed-up or turned off by a party, then it can result in 'surprising' results.

I may be wrong but the odds must now favour a hung Parliament instead of a Tory victory which, I believe, would be the first time?

Wonder if Cameron is kicking himself too - I can't remember exactly but I'm sure he was one of the ones pushing for the TV debate thinking that it would highlight Brown's deficiencies. Doh...

Yeah, what was he 16 points ahead when he agreed? He really must be kicking himself right now. But then again the polls a few days before the debate were not all that deciding either.

I'll laugh in a couple of years (well cry) when the Lib Dems have started enacting their crazier policies and everyone is wondering what's going on.

It's exactly like the US now with Obama pushing through his deeply unpopular health system changes. What did they think would happen if they voted for someone with it on their manifesto?

His health system changes are deeply unpopular with about half the population, which isn't surprising as the vote was pretty much 53-45 for and against him at the election - the US is more or less completely split in two ideologically. The reason the reforms aren't quite as popular with the Democrats is that they don't go far enough - no public option for example, rather than being opposed to the concept of universal healthcare which was the election promise.

I'm quite looking forward to the outpouring of ragemen on the forum if anyone but the Tories get in :p

Rage will happen no matter what, just by different people. Hopefully we get to make the tory voters feel bad and get back to complaining :)

It might be coincidence, but oddly enough the approval rating split is very close to the split between those who don't pay Federal tax and those who do :p

Obama's approval rating has sunk significantly and there is serious concerns of another Timothy McVeigh type figure coming to the fore. Militia groups are also growing very vocal.

Will not be voting Lib Dems simply because of their policy on Nuclear (Trident and power stations).

I suppose that leaves just conservatives left to vote for to get Labour out of power.

That is my feeling as well.

But I won't vote conservative and Labour need getting rid of so lets hope a hung parliament results in the Lib Dem polices I like but they keep some for of Nuclear deterrent and invest in nuclear.

I cannot beleive people are so swayed by a few sweet words from a muppet representing a party who were not even taken seriously by the majority until a TV debate last week.

Is this nation really so stupid that a silver tounge can win an election? If so we may as well all give up hope of any real change in our political spectrum as we will just be represented by vapid idiots with a quick smile and a good catchphrase for the camera.

We take on all American ideas and take them to a stupid extreme, I would imagine that Americans will be slightly swung by a TV debate, those who really cannot make up thier mind. Yet the amount of swing shown by a single TV debate in this country is shocking, I really despair.

As the foreign afairs guy went to pains to explain, the lib dems propose to not replace trident with like-for-like (a system capable of firing nukes at Russia). He said instead they want to look into either extending the lifetime of trident, or using an alternative system (he mentioned submarines).
