Crysis Trouble (Will Not Allow Enthusiest Settings)

Hi, my PC has an ATI 5870. I am willing to bet that that is why I can not engage all of the Graphics settings to "Enthusiest" in Crysis. :(
I am looking for a fix please. Settings are curently only set to "Very High." Fairly positive that I am running the DX 10 version (default).

Also, I was having mouse sensisivity issues with the sensitivity being way too low for my liking. But I fixed that by opening console and typing in:
con_restricted 0 [PRESS ENTER]
cl_sensitivity = 200 [PRESS ENTER]

I made a "System.cfg" document with notepad in the Crysis folder with those 2 console commands. But I think I made a mistake with the second line. I did not put it exactly the way the game likes it. So the next time I opened Crysis, I found all of the settings, including my keyboard/mouse button configurations, had all been reset back to default! Luckily, I noticed that this reset did not affect my one savegame that was auto-saved just when the game starts when Nomad gets on the island via the beach. It was just annoying to have to once again change all the controlls to the way I like them. I use a CRT monitor by using an adaptor that I connect to the back of the PC. It is the connection that is horizontally long. Not sure if that is called HDMI or DVI.

But, once again, I was unable to set the graphics settings to Enthusiest. My resolution is 1280x1024. Thanks! :p

WOW! So I have Crysis maxed out? WOW! Its like butter! Thanks. :D
Another quick question concerning my CPU. The computer store that I went to to get the PC all put together refused to overclock my CPU, even though I had bought a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme 1366 RT CPU Cooler just for that purpose. They installed the big cooler but not the overclock. Is overclocking overrated?

You really need to get a bigger monitor to stretch that card to be honest.

The PC store you bought from doesn't have to overclock the system for you either. Definately not over rated and would recommend taking some time to read up and do it yourself.

I get great fps in crysis.

Sick of it's horrible screen tearing issues / vsync mouselag.. so dont play it.. :(

First, in Graphics > Advanced
Turn "Motion Blur" to "Off"
Then, make sure mouse smoothing is set to off. Open console and type:
con_restricted 0 [PRESS ENTER]
cl_sensitivity = 200 [PRESS ENTER]

Both problems fixed!

And, yes, a new monitor might be an idea. But this monitor was FREEEEEE! Pretty decent size too. I think it is 22 inches or maybe more.

If you want more out of crysis, get the natural mod. I can run crysis maxed out, cant now because of the natural mod. Looks sweet!!

"The uninstallation of the previous version of the Natural Mod is not mandatory, but cleaner"

I have Crysis updated to version 1.3 I believe. Would I need to uninstall or something to get this to work?
Also, I am not hardcore enough to try to overclock the CPU myself. The risk to gain ratio does not look good. Plus I read that Core i7 processors have a turbo mode built in when running demanding applications. This is more or less an auto-overclock. It would have been nice to have it done though. Too bad, since I already bought this big cooler.

Trust added dude.

Thank you for this.

AH you havent configured trust.

Thanks tho mate :)

Your resolution is only 1280x1024 though, get a nice 24" for 1920x1200 goodness :D

EDIT: unp | dissy, believe trust is only meant to be used when buying/selling items - could be wrong though

Oh, thought it was like a + system for helpful posts n stuff :)

Hmm, first time I heard of "trust." Must be a site perk system of some kind. I doubt I would be able to reap the benefits of it though since I live way over here in Canada. I buy all my stuff locally but I enjoy these forums.

But just so I know, how do I enable trust?

Could be wrong about that but always just seen it used for providing feedback on sales etc from the MM.

To enable Trust click on the button bottom right of one of your posts or goto the User CP and set it up there :)

You can use it to email people and somebody very kindly used it to leave fantastic feedback on me after I helped them out with a problem on these forums.

Overclocking is well worth it. Did a quick search for i7 930 reviews as they would be more current but are basically the same as 920.

Crysis makes no difference as it maxes out the 5870

However in X3 (1,680 x 1,050, no AA or AF) the min frame rate goes from 43fps to 63fps @ 4.3Ghz. I would think that there are many other games where this is relevant.

Overclocking the CPU for gaming is rarely worth it.

Reviews of processors make it look like they are worth it, because they don't use the highest gaming settings the graphic card is capable of (as you pointed out, that X3 benchmark uses no AFF, no AA).

Once you start cranking up the graphics settings, as everyone with 5870 will, the differences between the processors, and processor speeds, tend to vanish.

Some games see some benefit, but most of the time it's negligible. Most of the games that you'll see an advbantage with the 5870, are games where you are already getting 60 or a 100+ frames anyway.

So overclocking the CPU is fine for someone who likes to do it because they can, and because they want to feel satisfied they are getting everything they can from their hardware. But if you aren't sure about it, you aren't missing out on anything.

For non-gaming applications, it's easier to make the argument that it's worth it, but most people who don't use cpu-intensive apps frequently won't need the extra power there either.

Crysis doesnt run like butter at 1920x1200 on very high I can tell you :) It's very playable but dips too low at times for me

Expecially on the later levels. I haven't benchmarked crysis or played it for ages but I remember that although I could get a good framerate of 40 fps on the benchmark, that would still mean certain areas of the game would drop to 20 fps.

As you say, depends on your res and how powerful your card is. However, even at 1920 x 1200 there are games which benifit from overclocking your cpu.

To get the best out of your card your need your cpu to be at 3.6Ghz at least and ideally 4Ghz IMO. However, the extra framerates still might not be worth the hassle of doing this (strokes his 4.6Ghz q9650 and smiles ;))
