Low vantage score

The closest I could find to your CPU with the 5970 is in the youtube vid below, and going by that your score is spot-on, you really need to overclock your CPU more to get the most out of the 5970.

Well, i have a 780i too (srtriker formula II), Driving my XFX-5970 but with a [email protected], and my Vantage score (and crysis/Dirt etc) are also low (Dirt2 Average is 43 frames at 1920x1200 (all maxed out in DX11 mind) Crysis Benchmarks are barely more than my Sli GTX8800's it replaced - infact ingame the 5970 seems slower TBH.:(

Vantage score: (varies) But usually 19750 GPU, 13800 CPU, Overall 17,800

some people here and elsewhere are getting near 30K GPU with the same card. Metalmicky, what Bios mobo do you have? (mine is 1901), I really am thinking now that its a 780i Mobo problem (bottleneck perhaps?) and not the actual CPU speed (i did a Vantage run with my cpu at 4GHZ ...but only got 20115 with 10.3 cats.:(

Hmmmmmmmm. Maybe I should buy 1 of the OCUK bundles. Which bundle is the best bang for buck for my 5970?

To be honest, i wass thinking about doing the same. Not just to improve my vantage score of course, but to "justify" paying over £500 for Card that isn't utilised. I've seen 5870 cards get higher scores than my 5970 (albeit heavily clocked with i7 CPU's..

BTW Metal, whats you "X" score?, which is more important i guess (mine was mid 12K if i remember)

You don't need an i7, an i5 750 will easily do 4Ghz and match an i7 in games at the same speed, you're best buying the parts and then assembling it yourself, it's a lot cheaper, if you're not confident in doing that then a bundle is the way to go.

Grab it whilst it's on TWOO :) Custom build will cost you just £25 less w/o warranty of the overclock and a cooler. You won't find a better bang for buck atm.

There's also an option with the i5 750 which would cost you approx. £100 less but may also hold you back in the future.

The mobo does seem to be the culprit here.

For example Antx, with my q9650 at 4ghz and my 5850 at 1000/1300 I score over 19,712 on gpu in vantage just 38 points behind you and 403 points at the same speed.

Perhaps it's the wierd chip hydrid pci-e setup on those boards causing the problem?

Anyway, cheap solution sell your board and buy a cheap p45 board.

Better long term, sell everything and get a nice i5 bundle.

No i5 is all you need, were going to have newer sockets and chipsets out soon/2011 anyway so even the 1366 socket will not be future proof, unless you fancy a hex CPU, go i5.

Yeah, the latest quads from AMD are very good and clock well, great value for money.

Still I would go i5 for the best performance for not much more cash than an AMD bundle.

Yeah, that's obviously a very low score. With an i7@4GHz and a modest o/c on the 5970 (850/1200) I got 24,900. Your CPU score is incredibly low, which is holding back your entire system. And clock speeds aren't the issue as your processor is highly clocked anyway.

Of course they will. If you buy an overclocked bundle from OcUK, you get a warranty for the whole system to be stable under any (?) circumstances as long as you don't touch the BIOS settings set by them ;)
