Hi computer pals, can you help me with a slight problem.

Was spray painting my dell computers case satin black, whilst turning it around I hit the power button which I think changes the voltage?!? The computer made a slight noise then went off and wont go back on, how do i reset the computer.

thanks guys!

You can try & reset the bios

1. remove the reset jumper & put it back after 30 sec's
2. remove the battery from the motherboard & put it back after 30 sec's or so

But i dont see how it would have changed the voltage, but try the reset & see how you get on

You were sparying it while it was on? The paint would have got sucked in to the case.

If you're talking about the voltage switch from 110V to 220V then you've killed the PSU.

Wont do anything oressing the on button but there is still a light on the motherboard?!?

Yeah I hit the 110-220v switch but I put it back straight away.

should have waited and painted it outside but wanted to do it straight away.

Yep, if it's the rocker switch on the back you've probably busted the power supply by making it think it's not in the UK!

Is the PSU location aware? :)

I think there's more to the OPs story. Why would he be sparying his PC case in his bedroom at this time of the night.

I think the excitment while waiting for his xxx download to finish got too much and while doing whatever he was doing he accidently fell on the switch.

I did exactly the same to my mums Dell (OBVIOUSLY I wasn't spray painting it while it was switched on downloading blue movies but...) I got a bang and a spark and some smoke. Removed the PSU, noted the serial number, plonked it into google and bought a replacement for about £30 - £40.

Fitted and works fine.

All I can say, use a bit of common sense, paint contains water, water and electrics dont mix. Who would spay paint their case when the pc is plugged in and switched on anyway...?

Was spraying it in the front room, am 28 years old and live on my own so not sure where the bedroom chat came from lol

Actually thought having it switched on would make the paint dry quicker, live and learn eh!

Is there no other way to get it back on, will the power psu defo be nailed?
