I'm looking for a system to get me started into pc gaming for around £300 which I can upgrade in the future does anybody know where I can find what I want for the price I want. (I want to avoid ebay) I'd be happy with the following: A Dual core 3gb ram 450 psu ati 5770 or nvidia 9800gtx and an operating system. Thanks

Think it is impossible with OS included...
Just a quick estimate CPU+motherboard £100+Graphic card £100+PSU £40+case £25+2GB memory £45+DVD writer/drive £15= total £325...these are low estimate and that's not including OS.

Could you save up for a bit longer, because £300 isn't going to get you much. If you want something just for gaming for £300, I would get an xbox or a ps3.

Yeah, you'll really struggle for only three hundred notes. I think I saw a thread recently where the budget was around £550 and even then it was a little tight.

£300 + good simply won't happen, mm excluded, simply because components are so blooming expensive currently :(

Imo spec me threads where the budget allows for around £600 can get you a reasonable system, perhaps not including peripherals though. :)

iv found a quadcore with 4gb ram on pc world for 300 just need a gfx card and I'd say that's perfect for I want it for.. windows 7 too. the only thing is the psu isn't listed so don't know if it will run a 5770...

Gainward GeForce GTS 250 Green Edition 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £74.03

Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2 AMD 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £47.65

Corsair Value Select 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Memory Module (VS2GB1333D3 G) £46.80

AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 240 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 240 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £39.99

OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent Power Supply OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent Power Supply £39.99

Total : £303.69

considering you only mentioned cpu, ram, gfx and psu and you will need a motherboard.
you can get these for nearlt £4 more, you will have to save up for a OS

the performance differance you would get for an extra £150 because no matter what you do you're still looking around £450 at the very least and even then you will need a monitor.. PC gaming isn't cheap sadly if you don't allready have a fairly new mainstream pc :(

ATX or mATX case will do there is a nice coolermaster that is fairy ok in features and cheap too. and yes them bits are from this site.

I already have a monitor and my friend as a version of xp pro 4 me, ithink it's perfect all I want to play is napolean total war/stalker and fallout/oblivion with mods (graphics mods too) I mean the case to stalker call of Pripyat reccomends a dual core and 2gb ram. I think il build that spec but with a 5770 and next month il upgrade to 4gb and then in a few months maybe go quad core.

hard drive yes, sound card no as there will be built-in to motherboard, if you can spare a little more cash like £450 and you can have very good setup next month. forget the spec i suggested.

fallout :P lol might be a problem.
if you said £550 you might be cooking but i only see problems skipping i can't put even remotely a gaming system together for that type of money i tried with the crapest parts it's still coming around £450ish.

i'm a go bed my better halfs complaining :( i'mm check back tomoz but second hand might be an option just be careful.
