Hey guys,

First off let me apologize if this in the wrong section or deemed as advertising, i can assure you it's not!

I'm currently doing my dissertation on Digital Rights Management and would really like to see users opinions on this matter,

The questionnaire is only 18 questions long so will be super quick to fill out and I would really appreciate your help!

Link to questionnaire: http://form.servebbs.net/tom/view.php?id=1

Also if anyone would like to post comments on the Title's Question that would be great and would love to people's input

Thanks again

Some drm is good like pdf files that you cannot print or copy content from, drm that does not install or change anything on your system.

Ah, going to do your questionnaire now.

Basic DRM on games is ok.
No music/video should have DRM, more music/video should be available for paid download

Thanks guys for doing the questionnaire- Bledd how come you think its okay for games to have DRM but not music and video? Music and Video are at the moment easier to pirate simply because they are smaller in size and quicker to download.

Don't get me wrong your input is excellent! be great to see your justifications as well!

All done and filled for ya :-)

You had some very interesting questions and it has reminded me on a couple of occasions when DRM has hindered my attempt to rip a CD into MP3s (discs that I bought). These DRM-protected audio CDs were multi-session, which had an autoplay on the data session. The trick was not to allow it to autoplay, because if you let it install itself, it prevents you from being able to rip its audio. Thankfully Windows 7 has autoplay turned off by default.

As for actual piracy, I don't know why it became a bigger issue with CDs than with tapes, because with tapes, you just stick 'em into the dual-cassette deck of your mum's hi-fi and Bob's your uncle.

+1

You should be able to do with bought music/video whatever you want, especially play it on any platforms than you might own/use (portable players etc).

Excellent thank you very much indeed- ahh yeah i know which ones you mean Monserrat! DRM can be hugely frustrating sometimes. Do you remember when Sony decided it would be a good idea to install a RootKit on the users PC when they put the CD into the computer? Crazyness.

I've got a motherboard where the IDE ports were messed up by Star-Force. Even using different HD's and a different CD drive it hasn't been right since Star-Force broke it (fortunately the SATAs are still OK).
Don't have a clue how it did it, but Star-Force seemed to take a dislike to my Alcohol 120% that I was using to mount an image of a game (so I didn't need to insert the CD but I didn't want to no-cd crack it).... of a game that I legitimately bought... :(.
