GTX 480 Are we ever going to get it

what about the buy now, play in 6/12 months finance ?

u should have it by the time you need to pay it, or if you have the money just pay off the balance once u get it

TSMC, the foundry that makes the chips for NV just aren't producing them in enough numbers to satisfy global demand, and of course everyday more orders will be made, so slippage is inevitable.

make a list of your favourite etailers & check them every day, multiple times a day, sooner or later you will trip over one in stock somewhere. just be prepared to put the effort in to get one.

Thats simply not true, its not close to true, Nvidia has more of the production capacity at TSMC than AMD does, because for now its the bigger customer, that means per month Nvidia gets around 5-5.5k wafers and AMD can make around 3.5-4k wafers a month, either can make whatever the hell they choose to make on those wafers, and each wafer takes around 6weeks to finish. The first wafers went in as hot lots in mid November, they were done the first week of Jan along with the tape out. IF it had been in production even if Nvidia only decided to make 500wafers a month, it should be spewing out 10k cards a month since January, its not, because its not in production, because its making a massive loss.

If it was in real production as with AMD it would have had 50k+ at launch after 3 months + of production with large numbers finished and being available weekly, which they aren't.

Its most likely that if you didn't have a pre-order in the first few days, you won't get one. Yes theres a few that will trickle in here and there as stock is moved around. I wouldn't be surprised of Nvidia do put a few wafers through here and there, so they can officially say a few were in stock worldwide every month but not real stock. They are waiting on a proper respin with proper fixes for yields so they can sell it at a profit. Theres really no point making them when they sell at a loss.

I'm sure 480s in some guise will start to show up in increasing numbers soon enough. It was a huge investment for them and they will be doing everything they can to get products on shelfs.

Or they could just close their doors and cease to exist, but I doubt it :) Either way, no point speculating!

As has been said, they don't really want to make 480s until they're able to re-spin it and get it making profit.

These 'launches' have become a bit of a gig lately.

1. Drum up lots of hype
2. Paper launch
3. Gouge customers for an extra £100 for a month or two

If you lived in the states, you could pick a 480 from a mainstream compettitor of an egg sounding supplier for only £330 :(

they seem to have plenty of stock, so hopfully a shipment will find its way to the UK soon enough.

why on earth are they even being bought! ?

Could always get a friend to buy in the states ans UPS Secure mail for £24.

This is sort of like the opposite of the velvet rope marketing strategy (currently in use by the iPad, been used by Nintendo etc as well).

Brown rope? :D
