Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been caught on microphone describing a voter he had just spoken to in Rochdale as a "bigoted woman".

Sixty five-year-old Gillian Duffy had challenged Mr Brown on a number of issues including immigration and crime.

As he got into his car, he was still wearing a broadcast microphone and was heard to say "that was a disaster".

Mr Brown later apologised after the tape was played to him as he was interviewed on BBC Radio 2.

After listening to the recording, with his head in his hands, he said: "I do apologise if I've said anything that has been hurtful."

That is the way all the mainstream politicians think. They all have contempt for the public.

To them, if you are concerned about mass immigration, you are a bigot. This woman expressed concern about the level of Eastern European immigration and thus in Brown's eyes she is a bigot.

Nobody should be surprised by this, the politicians don't care what we think or what we want.

I think its refreshing, almost human. Listening to this women "bigot" i suddenly want a crusha milkshake.

It would have been refreshing if he'd turned around when it was played back and said "so? she was asking for it"... or maybe not played the interested politician in the first place and told her what he really thought to her face instead.

Palm face as he was listening to his own recording!!

I'll just leave this here :D

Heh, that's pretty good. Always remember to switch off the mic!

For me the best one was when Blair pussy footed around Bush, acting the utter puppy that he was to him. Anybody have a link to it? It was when he tried to show a slightly busy (!!) looking Bush a document or something, and the American just gibbed him off.

She might well be a bigot. We haven't yet heard what caused Mr Brown to call her so.

Not a clever move on his part but I'd love to hear what she said to prompt the remark.
