A gaff indeed but the media are blowing it out of all proportion.

As said though, she left happy and if left at that, nothing else would have been said.

He could have got good publicity from the visit to the hairdresers earlier but this will be blown out of all proportion.

I think she is a bigot though and agree with Gordon Brown.

Thats not stupid. I'm pleasant and nice with my customers to their face even if I think they're really complete knobs and not worth the effort.

Nice to see bbc news showing the recording, the womans reaction and the apology but not showing the actual conversation between Gordon and the woman :rolleyes:

. Without that we can't really say if he was right or wrong to call her that, but judging from that quote I'm leaning towards thinking she probably might be a bigot. Either way it's still a gaffe though, and he must be kicking himself for saying it.

I wouldn't say I'd defend Brown on this but looking at the old bag and putting into context what she said. It's probably something I would have remarked.

For me I don't care if the woman really was a bigot or not, it just shows up Gordon Brown as being unable to handle situations whereby he is forced to deal with the public.

Even if she spewed out the most vile racist stuff, Brown shouldn't have said anything. I don't expect a prime minister to make off the cuff remarks behind people's backs like that. He should have just taken it on the chin and learned from it. Instead he now looks like one of those shifty dudes from hidden recordings of BNP members.
