Gordon Brown's 'bigoted woman' jibe

This is why politicians rarely meet "real" people. You can always spot them, they are the ones asking them really awkward questions about their kids schools or why the local hospital is closing. They are nearly always a PR disaster. Politicians are fed a diet of carefully vetted or safe people who won't rock the boat (in front of the cameras at least) as they never have straight answers to very straight questions.

I am not a Cameron bum-boy, but I take exception to this. I think that Cameron is a good example of a politician who can and does go and meet 'real people', who for almost every day in the last two weeks has gone to a town, stood in the middle and given a speech and taken questions.

For the last 2-3 years, he has also done 75 of his 'Cameron Direct' meetings - ~ 1000 people randomly selected from the electoral register, then known Conservative members filtered out, then invited to a free-for-all town hall meeting, which gets recorded and uploaded (unedited).

Clegg is the same, but was late with the 'town hall meeting' bandwagon (he has done around 20, if I recall correctly).

It is sad that the campaign to elect the government of our country has come down to this. The media are to blame, yes it's bad (that it was heard) but at the end of the day who cares. I want to be able to vote for the party which is going to take this country forward, yet at this stage I am no wiser.

We will end up like greece for sure.

Anyway, compared to all the other stupid and annoying and god knows what other things politicans do, who cares about this?

Loads of people are rude anyhow, but what Gordon said wasn't even rude.

Cameron lies about most of the people he meets.
He once said he met a 40 year old man who had been in the RAF for 30 years.

His formula is "I was in TOWN and I met PERSON and they said STATEMENT" he's so full of ****. When people start realising he's lying he plays the dead son card.
Never seen brown play the dead daughter card, hmm..

This was a confusion of numbers, according to news reports that looked into it.

That doesn't change the fact has has spent more time than any of the other politicians going and meeting people in their tens of thousands.

I am disappointed with brown not for his original comment, but for apologising!

The woman is a bigot. An uneducated, Daily Mail reading bigot. She's very lucky to have been born in the UK where she can get away with being a fat loudmouth. Most of the eastern Europeans that have moved here are worth ten of her to this country.

well he actually said 'sort of bigoted'

[In car] That was a disaster. Should never have put me with that woman. Whose idea was that?

Aide: I don’t know, I didn’t see.

Brown: Sue’s, I think. Just ridiculous.

Aide: Not sure if they’ll go with that one.

Brown: Oh they will.

Aide: What did she say?

Brown: Everything. She’s just this sort of bigoted woman who said she used to be a Labour voter. Ridiculous.

Gordon's only hope is a hung parliament, with Clegg propping him up.The great unwashed will not be at all impressed if he gets the least votes next week, yet is still PM.Democracy in action?
Whoever gets in,we are screwed anyway for the forseeable future.Tax's are going to go through the roof, and public services will be cut.
Labour spent 13 years getting us into this mess, and now they are going to wave a magic wand and get us out of it?
I don't think so.

I think it's a sad state of affairs when the media invade Gordon's privacy like this for the sake of a story.

Obviously common decency doesn't exist any more.

Invaded privacy? The mic wasn't planted on him.

He was wearing a live feed mic and his talk was being broadcast live on Sky News, just like he wanted.
