Hello guys,

I'm looking to get a cooler to overclock my q6600. I'm willing to spent about £45 providing it comes with a fan, what do you think my best option is?

Cheers.

Titan Fenrir

i think you'll find that it's down to personal choice, there are loads out there, best thing to do is find out as much as possible about each one you like the sound of.

For instance my cpu runs at 25-28 deg at idle, 57 max under full load on prime 95 with the titan.

Baram is a good all-rounder at that price point. A couple xilence fans and you're just about at your budget with a nice quiet, well performing cooler.

Thanks for the replies, this will be going into an Antec 300 btw.

Can anyone tell me what the highest OC they have managed on a q6600 with any of the above coolers is? I want to get to 3.2 minimum really.

i have the q6600 in my cpu-z validator in my sig running at 3.3 ghz under the original tower 120 led non extreme version at 1440 rpm, even in prime or ibt @ 3.5 ghz it never broke 60c but i did turn the fan up full for that.

My q660 is at 3.4, with the titan it idles between 25-28 under full load it reaches 57 max. I have no need to up the fan speed at all for those temps. Will be pushing for 3.6 oc pretty soon.

But it also uses wide heat pipes meaning only the middle ones make contact with the small die on 775 chips, diminishing it's excellent cooling somewhat.

Thermalright Ultra-120 + fan = £45.

I wouldn't say that at all, seeing as the temps i'm getting with my titan are near enough perfect, with a max temp of 57 degrees underload i would say that the cooler is working and using its full potential as it should.

I have a cm 690 dominator, front intake fan at the bottom, 2 fans at the top exhausting and one at the back exhausting. The 2 fans i had on the side panel i took off, the top one becaus i had to just to get the cooler in ok.

Would the 2 fans running on the side make a difference to my cpu temps???

I doubt it, 25 deg idle is fine for me.

Its all down to personal choice

Great cooler, i can highly reccomend it.

With the thermalright ultra i managed 3.8ghz from my old q6600, 3.8ghz on a q9550 and its currently cooling an i7 at 4ghz.

Venomous X.

Have one strapped to my Q6600 now, and I'm part way through sorting out my case/mod/airflow/lighting ect so running a mild 3.0Ghz overclock.

Current Idle temp: 24C (ambient is around room temperature I'd say).

The only downside is you need to supply your own fan/s.
