Hi guys, I built my pc around xmas, working nicely but occassionally it will freeze for maybe 5-6 seconds then the hard drive will click, then it will unfreeze. I have my OS on one SSD and my main programs on another SSD, then all my storage on a samsung spinpoint 500gb drive. It happens mostly when I first startup the computer and open itunes, when I first click on a song, it freezes for 5 secs, hard drive clicks, then starts playing. Also happens when I do a search in the windows menu, I start typing something, freezes for 5 secs, hard drive clicks, then it performs the search. Not the end of the world, just annoying. any help or advice would be appreciated, cheers! :)

Are you sure it's not the fact that your disk is coming out of sleep mode ? Check your windows power settings and perhaps set your disks to never sleep and check it for a day or so
Run a chkdsk and see if it finishes and throws up any bad sectors

Ive had loads of WD's fail on me and my fair share of Samsungs so i order on depending on price and performance.

A drive shouldnt click and cause the pc to freeze. backup your data run a smart test and chkdsk it and if they fail rma it.

Happened to my old ipod HDD :(

Started clicking then gave a big thunk and never worked again. So as much as it sucks i'd say your HDD is about to go aswell.

You don't mention the model of WD drive which failed. Generally WD make the best drives. I used to work in Seagate here in Northern Ireland and it's easy to see why their failure rate is so high. In all my years of working with and repairing machines, Western Digitial always proved the most reliable. Just my opinion mind.
