Avatar - Bluray.

Can anyone confirm that Avatar works with a PS3 - As i've heard that some BR players hate it and spit it back out

Works fine on a PS3, as will all Blu-Rays (including 3D ones in the future). Remember that Sony created the tech in the first place and the PS3 is subject to regular firmware updates via internet. I still don't see the point in owning any other Blu-Ray player myself.

I never caught this in the cinema so watched this on my plasma and projector (81" screen). I can say that this movie demanded a big screen - my 42" plasma simply didnt do it justice.

I was impressed with the image quality/transfer - very impressive. I'm sure that even on a bog stand dvd, this film will impress. Technically, this is as good as it gets.

The special effects were obviously the most outstanding aspect of the film, however, the storyline left a lot to be desired. After being treated to The Abyss and then Terminator2 (which I rate as one of the best films I've ever seen), Avatar was a massive disapointment.

This film is the most expensive movie ever made and you can see where all the money went - no expense was spared and the film is unbelievably polished. Apart from the changing the script/storyline, I can't see how it could've been done better.

In a nutshell - if you want a good, solid storyline, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a tech demo, which shows just what can be achieved with 2009 technology, then this movie will demonstrate it.

I can see a very obvious reason - price.

The PS3 isn't any more expensive than a regular Blu-Ray player though? In many cases it's cheaper.

I'm liking the sound of your 82" projector set up. I'm really tempted to get a projector but don't really have an ideal living arrangement for one. I'd have to totally re arrange everything in order to get one positioned right and all the right stuff plugged into it.

Cheapest BluRay player I've seen on google shopping is £58.
Cheapest (new) PS3 I've seen on google is £215.

When you have a projector, you certainly do have to make allowances for its presence. In fact, once the projector arrives on the scene, your entire room has to be arranged to allow you to view it.

Projectors are great for the "spectaculars", but 90% of the time you will probably be viewing your movies on your TV (unless the TV is hopelessly bad).

Avatar is one of the few films where I felt that my 42" TV failed to do it justice. I can't remember the last time I felt this way when watching a film. It may have something to do with the 16:9 ratio.

Oh ok mate didn't know BR players were that cheap now. Hadn't really checked in a while.

See what your saying about projectors only really being worth it for the big movie releases. I will probably hold off until 3D ones become more available.

Just got it tonight and watched it after I got home from the Gym, i'm gobsmacked. Unbelieveable film, excellent stuff.

When watching films I tend to see through the special effects. As I result I wasn't impressed and had strange feelings of deja vu throughout the whole film. The story seemed oh so familiar, almost as if it's been stolen from somewhere...

Dancing With Wolves!!

Just got mine today, absolutely stunning in HD, amazing film.

Think I might do a comparison between my 26" 1920*1200 monitor and my 32" CRT TV, seeing as I've got both BR and DVD.
