which is the king of Thermal Compound

Tunic do a thermal compound, I think its now Tunic 4. I think the MX 3 may be slightly better then Artic 5.

i used to swear by AS-5 until a friend gave me some MX-3 to try out and i'll never go back. the difference is minimal but what makes the difference is the no need for curing of MX-3

Another vote for MX-3.

However I don't think there is that much difference between the premium compounds in terms of temperatures so things like being non electrically conductive, ease of use and curing times are worth considering.

Doubt theres a big difference unless youre going to be reaaally overclocking, used 5 in my build a few years ago, everything is still fine.

mx-3 gives slightly better temps but as-5 is easier to apply, both are excellent thermal compounds and either is an excellent choice.

I always use MX3. Easy to spread, easy to clean, performs well and doesn't need to cure. Also, it's cheap :p

*edit*

Actually, just noticed I'm still on MX2!
Ah well, it does the job :p

How do you guys apply MX-3?

Shamelessly stolen...

The old days of clingfilm and manual spreading are gone - there was a great bit on it a while back explaining the science behind spread and void spaces - CBA to find it...

~Then get a piece of cling film, stretch it over your finger so its smooth, start in the middle and pull the paste to the sides going clockwise.
NO!!!

Wrong, watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyXLu1Ms-q4&feature=related

In doubt watch the backup videos. Put a blob dead centre of your chip. The trick is to make that blob just spreads to the edge of the chip once heat sink pressure is applied. How much do you need? depends on how much pressure, viscosity of the TIM ect.

I have tried MX-3, Shin Etsu and Indigo Extreme. MX-3 is really easy to find and has the best curing time.
The other two are very hard to find in europe but their performance is about 2-3C better than MX-3.

Applying the Indigo Extreme is no simple thing but for getting 3C better than MX-3 is worth the effort.

Look at the middle of the page for photos how to apply the different thermal compunds.

Conclusion if you can get the shin etsu or indigo extreme( note the photos and review as how its applied ) you will be more than happy than MX-3.

Personally i don't think that MX-3 is worth the premium over MX-2 for the tiny difference in performance. If you shop around you can get two tubes of MX-2 for the price of a single MX-3. It's still good stuff and needs no curing unlike AS-5.
