Bogus Phone Call - "Online PC Help"

^ or if the phone is ringing and im busy or not expecting a call i just let it go, they either leave a message or if i know them, ring me on my mobile.

I just got another call from India, this time it was "Microsoft" saying that they wanted to check the validity of my Windows license. Having had some time to think about the last conversation with these scam artists I thought I'd get straight in with my pitch which was basically - "Why is it that you feel that you can attempt to steal money from me, do you honestly think that because you earn less in India I work any less hard than you? You must know that what you are doing is criminal, how is it that you can do this job and sleep at night?" at which point I hung up. Within 20 seconds she calls back "How dare you speak to me like this, shut your mouth, shut your mouth" so knowing I must have struck a cord somewhere to get her upset I said "I don't care that you call me, I know what you are trying to do, it's the old and vulnerable people you take your money from that I care about, really I don't know how you can sleep at night" and hung up again. Not heard back but am waiting for the next call..............

They knew my name, telephone number and that I had a computer, so they must have got the details from somewhere. .

They know your name and number so they have a phone book/bought a big list of numbers and names.

they don't know you have a computer they just assume that 90% of people they call will.

I had a call a few weeks ago,i was amazed at how persistent they were! No matter what I said he wouldn't put the phone down. Felt better that i wasted some time that they would have been using to convince some other poor fool.

act really worried and ask them to check a website for you to see if that;s where you got it from.,

send them to HAI2U :p

I wonder how long you can keep them on the phone for.

I'm sure the time can be extended by "hold on someones come to the door, be back in 30 seconds"

and then "oh now the baby is crying,,, back in a minute"

followed by "oh crap now my mobile is ringing"

I reckon 20 mins is achievable.

Heh. i'd be more tempted to not even say anything. Just mid conversation put the phone on my desk and leave it

Just had an almost identical call, played along for a bit, then started to gradually get more suspicious of them, it's amazing how many times they will repeat "we are a team of microsoft certified technicians...... etc... etc..."

They were under a new name of "log4rescue" and instead of talking about viruses were talking about my PC going slower over time.... well duh ya think!

Just hung up in the end as I got bored.

I'm tempted to just get them to call me so I can pookie bear soundboard them!

Oh dear god, that would be amazing.

"Hello sir, I am calling you from Microsoft as a certified technician to help you fix a problem with your registry..."

"I'm gettin' shot in the ass!"

"But sir, I must tell you how to fix this particular issue that is affecting many customers..."

"Go eat a bag of phalli Ruddles."

Ah man, I want a call now!
