Only if it's the live channels, the already broadcast programs they put up you can watch without paying the license fee.

Exactly, so the three things paradigm wrote down actually don't need a licence for (unless you are watching the live broadcasting on BBC iPlayer)...

Seems like he got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning...:p

Indeed, I currently have no TV, but watch a lot of any-time IPTV from sources like BBC iPLayer, SkyPlayer, Revision3...

Still get endless outright bullying threats from the TV licensing people.

I don't know a single student that pays for a tv license. Like it or not the chances of being caught are very small and students tend to only stay in a flat for 8 months a year. Generally you get a warning a couple of months in, then another warning, then around this time of year they threaten to send people round. That almost never happens. Still, a thread for this, really? :p

We paid out TV licence every year!

However for a couple of those years I didn't have a TV in my room so I just sponged off the others TV licences... :p

I'm a student and I pay for a TV license. Now you know of one.

I watch BBC channels with my television set and sometimes use iplayer to watch live streams. I see no reason to dodge the fee if you use BBC services, as that would be being seriously tight and there's no excuse. I also think no students have an excuse, as if they can afford to spend so much on booze (I'm generalising a tad), they can afford the license, especially as most live together and so can share the cost with others.

There is an amazing amount of people on here who do not watch tv. I have yet to meet anyone in RL who doesnt.

Lets meet, then you will have :D

I don't at Uni but when i go home i do, rarely though..

It doesn't mean you don't watch TV. I watched TV rarely (probably 3-4 hours a week) when at uni, normally in our living room with others, which was covered by the TV licence one of my housemates bought for her room as she had a TV in there...

There's a difference between watching live broadcasts and going on iPlayer and watching old stuff ;)

We have to pay for ours - its not like you could get a Sky subscription and then not pay for the TV license ;)

That might be a slight giveaway. I know someone (no license) that answered the door to the tv licensing people holding a virgin remote

I'd never let him live that one down.

even if they come knocking you dont have to let them in. Its quite simple, then whilst they are gone getting backup simply get rid of offending material and let them in next time.

This only applies to flats of course as its neigh on impossible to prove anything without physically catching you doing it in multiple occupancy zones where dwellings are one on top of the other. Oh, and if each room has a lock on it, each room needs its own individual lisence. I read that somewhere and am not sure if its completely true.

Do i advocate not paying?...... im in two minds. However i suggest you dont get caught as they will throw the book at you most probably.
