Hi Gang

been out of the loop for a while on tech stuff, so asking the bods here for advice.

1. Whats a good upgrade from a Radeon 4850?

2. How does the 4850 compare to the 5850? much of a jump?

soz if this has been asked before

thanks

;)

5850 is basically twice the performance at minimum.

The rest of your setup would be helpful.

4850>5850 = BIG increase in performance. What computer are you going to running it in/what will you be running on it? A 5850 might be overkill, the 5770 and the 5830 are great crads for the price

Core 2 Duo @2.4Ghz 4Gb DDR

:)

I shifted from a 4850 to a 5850. The 5850 was bottle necked by my e5200 @3.8ghz in some games. I've noticed the current q6600 has all 4 cores used in almost all games I've been using since in the last 6 months, and now the 5850 is not constrained at all.

Most benches where 512mb isnt an issue will have 2x 4850s just in front of a stock 5850. However my 4850 wouldnt overclock more than 5%. The 5850 can if you want it too. I could have bought a 2nd 4850 for a lot less, but I needed a card with >512mb, and the idle power requirements of just 1 on its own upset me.

Mine was £200 at release. Wouldnt want to shell out what they are going for now. I'd buy a single 5770 now, and buy a 2nd to crossfire if I needed more umpf. I think 2x 5770 would create less noise than a single 5850. Havent been impressed with how much noise my reference 5850 makes.
